Marathwada Accelerator for Growth and Incubation Council (MAGIC) is a business incubator based in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra. Established by the Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA), MAGIC holds the distinction of being India's first regional industry association-led business incubator. The organization operates as a sector-agnostic incubation platform that supports startups and small and medium enterprises across manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and services. MAGIC's creation reflects the Marathwada region's ambition to develop its own startup ecosystem independent of the established hubs in Pune and Mumbai.
MAGIC plays a critical role in bringing organized startup support to the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, an area that has historically been underserved by institutional incubation infrastructure. By leveraging CMIA's extensive network of established industries and agricultural businesses, MAGIC provides startups with something that many urban incubators cannot: direct access to manufacturing facilities, supply chains, and domain expertise in traditional industries. The incubator's industry association backing gives it practical insights into the challenges and opportunities facing MSMEs, allowing it to design programs that address real market needs rather than theoretical startup frameworks.
MAGIC provides co-working space and incubation facilities for startups at various stages of development. The incubator offers mentorship from experienced industrialists and business leaders associated with CMIA, connecting founders with practical knowledge about manufacturing, distribution, and market access in the Marathwada region. MAGIC organizes workshops on topics relevant to both technology startups and traditional businesses including digital transformation, quality management, export readiness, and access to finance. The incubator also facilitates connections with government schemes and incentives available to startups and MSMEs in Maharashtra, helping ventures navigate the regulatory landscape and access subsidies and grants.
Startup founders and MSME entrepreneurs based in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra are the primary beneficiaries. Ventures in manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, and technology that serve the regional economy find MAGIC's industry connections and local knowledge particularly valuable. First-generation entrepreneurs from smaller cities and towns in the region who lack access to the mentorship and networking opportunities available in Mumbai and Pune can use MAGIC as their entry point into the organized startup ecosystem. Students and graduates from universities in the region who wish to pursue entrepreneurship also benefit from the incubator's programs.
MAGIC represents an important model for decentralizing India's startup ecosystem. By demonstrating that a regional industry association can effectively operate a business incubator, MAGIC provides a template that other chambers of commerce and industry bodies across India can replicate. The incubator's focus on the Marathwada region, which faces specific economic development challenges, ensures that the benefits of the startup movement extend beyond India's Tier 1 cities. MAGIC's sector-agnostic approach recognizes that innovation is not limited to technology sectors and that manufacturing and agricultural enterprises can also benefit from incubation support.
