Choosing the way in

Incubation is the main door, and it comes in two forms. Pick residential if your work needs a bench, a culture room or the instrumentation, and virtual if what you want is the mentoring, IP help and funding support without the space. You name the incubation period you want, in months, on the form, so have a view on how long you need.

The funding routes described on the site — the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme and the MSME Innovative Scheme via the MSME Idea Hackathon — do not publish their own calls or forms here. If one of them is what you are after, ask the team directly rather than waiting for a page to appear. The same goes for the five strategic programmes, which are published as a list of programme types without dates.

How applications work

Everything goes through the online incubatee application form. You can apply as an individual or as a company, and the company may be proposed rather than already registered — but if it exists, have the certificate of incorporation and the certificate of recognition ready as PDFs.

Get these together before you start, because the form asks for each as a separate upload:

• a one-page technology or research proposal
• a letter from your organisation or employer consenting to your becoming an incubatee
• profiles of the team members involved
• the products and services you plan to build
• the current directors and top management with contact details
• details of any funding you hold now or have held before
• resumes for you and for the contact person

You also tick the space you want: a bench plus sitting space, an independent lab at one of the published sizes, an office cubicle, or a workstation bench. Ask for what you will actually use — space is charged monthly or by area.

What to have thought through

The site does not describe a selection panel or scoring, so write for a reader who knows the science. Be concrete about what the technology does, what you still have to prove, and which of the facilities you need to prove it — the instrumentation list and the charge sheet are published, so you can name the equipment and the space in your proposal instead of leaving it vague.

Because incubation is charged, work out the monthly cost of the bench or shell, the culture facility and the instrumentation you expect to use, and make sure your runway covers it. If you are already part of the cluster, ask about the members' discount.

Before you write

Read the incubatees page. It lists the current and graduated companies, and they cluster around diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, industrial biotech and environmental work — if your venture sits in that world, say so. If you only need a specific instrument rather than a place, the external-user rates let you book equipment without applying for incubation at all.

Questions to ask

Email bbb@rcb.res.in or call the office on the number on the contact page. Good things to settle early: whether a call for incubation is currently open, how long a decision usually takes, whether the centre takes any stake in incubatees, and what the current charges are, since the published sheet carries its own effective date.

BSC BioNEST Bio-Incubator, usually written as BBB, is a bio-incubator on the Faridabad-Gurugram Expressway in Faridabad, Haryana, inside the NCR Biotech Science Cluster. It is funded by BIRAC under the BioNEST scheme and is managed and operated by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, an institution of national importance set up by the Department of Biotechnology under the auspices of UNESCO. Its focus is life sciences, biopharma, BioMedTech and allied areas.

How incubation works

BBB takes startups in two ways. Residential incubation gives you space inside the building: a bench in the shared wet lab, or an independent lab shell, or an office desk or cubicle. Virtual incubation is for teams that want the support without the space, and BBB says its support services run for both resident and virtual incubatees. The application form asks you to say which one you want and for how many months, and to tick the space you need, from a bench with a sitting space up to an independent lab of around 400 square feet.

Incubation here is paid. BBB publishes a charge sheet covering a shared wet lab bench, independent shell space per square foot plus a maintenance rate, an office desk, the culture facility and the Central Instrumentation Facility, with hourly rates for the seminar room and for meeting and video-conference rooms beyond a free allowance. Members of the cluster get a discount. The rates in force were published as applying from 1 September 2026, so check the current sheet before you budget.

Alongside incubation, BBB names three funding routes on its site. It describes the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, which the Regional Centre for Biotechnology collaborates on with DPIIT, and which backs proof of concept, prototype development and product trials with milestone-linked grant support, then market entry and scaling through convertible debentures or debt instruments. It describes the MSME route: the centre is registered as a Host Institute under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, takes part in the MSME Idea Hackathon and selects ideas from it for incubation under the MSME Innovative Scheme. Neither page publishes its own call, form or dates, so the way in is to ask BBB. The third route is corporate social responsibility money: BBB qualifies to receive CSR contributions towards technology incubators, and companies are asked to write in.

BBB also publishes five strategic programmes as a table: IDEA and LEARN for awareness and workshops, EMPOWER for entrepreneurship development, the FINE innovation challenge as an ideathon, and CREATE as the CSR channel. The table gives each one a focus and an intended impact but no dates, no page of its own and no way to apply, so treat them as things to watch for rather than open calls.

Who can apply

The incubatee application form has one section for an individual applicant and another for a company, and the company can be a registered or a proposed partnership or private limited company. So you do not have to be incorporated to start the conversation, but if you are, the form asks for the certificate of incorporation and the certificate of recognition. It also asks for a one-page technology or research proposal, a letter of consent from your organisation or employer, profiles of your team, a list of the products and services you plan, a list of directors and top management, and details of any funding you hold or have held. Nothing on the site restricts applicants by state, category or age, and nothing describes how applications are assessed.

Startups incubated at BBB work in diagnostics, healthcare, med-tech, industrial biotech, biopharma including vaccines and therapeutics, digital health, social impact, environmental sustainability and agro-food technology.

Facilities

The building has one shared lab with eighteen seats, each a wet bench plus a working desk, twenty independent labs of about 180 and 220 square feet, one of about 800 and one of about 1,100, and thirteen office cubicles. Two common instrumentation labs make up the Central Instrumentation Facility, and BBB publishes the full 46-item equipment list: real-time qPCR and thermal cyclers, multi-mode plate readers, ultra-low temperature and minus-twenty freezers, a walk-in cold room, gel documentation with multiplexing, western blotting, refrigerated and high-speed centrifuges, a lyophilizer, a probe sonicator, chemical hoods and an ultrapure water system. There is a mammalian and bacterial culture facility at BSL2 level with CO2 incubators, cell culture hoods and liquid nitrogen storage. A seminar hall, meeting rooms and a video conference room are on site. Incubatees also reach the Advanced Technology Platform Centre, the cluster's advanced instrumentation facility, and can collaborate with faculty on the premises.

Equipment is not only for incubatees. BBB publishes hourly user charges for outside users, at one rate for startups, students and academia and a higher rate for industry, with consumables brought by the user.

Support services

BBB runs IP services in-house: prior art search with a novelty and patentability assessment, drafting of provisional and complete specifications, filing, copyright, trademark and industrial design protection. On the business side it offers coaching and guidance, marketing support including digital and affiliate marketing, funding assistance, help recruiting and training staff, consultancy, and internships for university and college students. Mentorship and networking sessions cover company formation, IP, business strategy and funding options, drawn from a mentor pool that includes faculty at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology and outside figures such as the head of NCL Innovations and the chief executives of BITS BioCyTiH Foundation and Vanguard Diagnostics.

Who runs it

The incubation team is led by Suman Gupta, Chief Operations Officer, with Malvika Garg on intellectual property and incubation, Kanchan Rawat as technical consultant, and Priyanka and Tarun Bidhuri as senior assistants. The wider centre is the Regional Centre for Biotechnology.

Getting there and staying in touch

BBB is at the 3rd Milestone on the Faridabad-Gurugram Expressway near Sainik Colony. Its own directions put it about 10 minutes from Faridabad, 30 from Gurugram, 40 from New Delhi and 60 from Indira Gandhi International Airport, with Badkhal Mor the nearest metro station about 20 minutes away. The site carries an events calendar and a photo gallery, and lists job openings at its incubatee companies rather than its own staff vacancies.
