Choose the right route

• A startup registered in Bihar can apply for seed funding support and incubation through the Startup Bihar portal.
• A startup registered outside Bihar can apply for mentoring under the Startup India scheme.
• A graduate who wants a degree that teaches entrepreneurship can apply to the PGDM-IEV.

How applications work

• Incubation applications go through the Startup Bihar portal or the Startup India portal.
• For the PGDM-IEV, download the application form from the programme page and email the scanned form with the fee payment slip to admission@cimp.ac.in, or submit a hard copy at the CIMP counter.

How selection works

• Seed funding projects move from a basic business plan to a detailed plan with an institutional mentor, then to state approval.
• PGDM-IEV candidates are shortlisted on academic record, work experience and a statement of purpose, followed by a personal interview.

What reviewers look for

• Prior startup or business experience counts for PGDM-IEV candidates.

Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) is an autonomous management institute in Patna, Bihar. It was set up in 2008 with support from the Government of Bihar and runs management education and research. Its startup arm, CIMP Business Incubation and Innovation Foundation (CIMP-BIIF), is a Section 8 company that supports early-stage ventures.

How the incubator works

CIMP-BIIF works with startups in edu-tech, fin-tech, ad-tech, e-commerce and health-tech. Its incubation centre offers mentoring, a plug-and-play office and co-working space. Seed funding support is open to projects registered under the Startup Bihar route, and the process runs in stages. A basic business plan goes first. An institutional mentor then helps build a detailed plan, which takes around 16 weeks and covers product ideation, market benchmarking, traction, financial projections and break-even. The plan is then sent to the state Department of Industries for seed funding approval.

Who can apply

Startups registered in Bihar, not older than five years on the date of application, can apply for seed funding support. Startups registered outside Bihar can apply for mentoring only, under the Startup India scheme. Applications come through the Startup Bihar portal and the Startup India portal.

Facilities

Startups allotted seats at B-HUB, a co-working and co-learning hub at Maurya Lok Complex, can work there Monday to Saturday. The space covers a conference room, controlled access, dedicated broadband and Wi-Fi, and facility management. Only startups recognised by the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar and allotted seats get this access.

Startup India listing

The incubation centre was listed with Startup India in 2019. It is also empanelled under the Startup Bihar Policy 2017.

The PGDM-IEV degree

CIMP also runs a full-time PGDM in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Venture Development (PGDM-IEV), sponsored by the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar. It combines pre-incubation support with live product development, proof-of-concept testing, IPR management and commercialisation. Participants are expected to form their own company by the end of the programme. It is a degree, not a grant, and it charges a fee.

Who runs it

Faculty mentors are assigned to startups on a first-come, first-served basis.

Locations

The institute and the incubation centre are in the Mithapur Institutional Area of Patna, Bihar. B-HUB is at Maurya Lok Complex in the centre of the city.
