About Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is the Government of India ministry that coordinates skill development across the country. It is based at Kaushal Bhawan, New Moti Bagh, New Delhi.
What the ministry does
The ministry describes its job as coordinating all skill development efforts in the country. It works to close the gap between the demand for skilled manpower and its supply, and it builds the vocational and technical training framework and new skills for existing and future jobs.
Who does the work
The ministry works through its functional arms: the Directorate General of Training (DGT), the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the National Skill Development Fund (NSDF) and the Sector Skill Councils. It says it is aided by 37 Sector Skill Councils, 33 National Skill Training Institutes and 187 training partners registered with NSDC.
The ministry's pages give different counts for Industrial Training Institutes. One page says about 15000 ITIs sit under DGT. The Craftsmen Training Scheme page says 14643 ITIs run its courses. We do not give a single figure.
Programmes
