How to apply to NMIT Bangalore

Choosing the right route

  • Early idea, want office space and mentors: the MSME Business Incubator is the programme the page describes for this stage.
  • Student or want to test an idea first: Enigma's Ideathon is an event, not an incubator place.

How to apply

  • The incubator page does not give a form, a fee or an intake date.
  • Write to the Institution's Innovation Council at iicnmit@nmit.ac.in and ask about the current intake.

What to check before you agree

  • The institute's innovation policy is from 2021. Confirm that its terms still apply.
  • Ask about equity in writing, because the policy gives two different ranges.

About NMIT Bangalore

Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is an engineering college in Yelahanka, Bangalore. It was established in 2001 and is now a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University). Its startup support comes from three places: an MSME business incubator, an innovation council and a student entrepreneurship cell.

What the incubator offers

The NMIT MSME Business Incubator says it is recognised and supported by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Entrepreneurs in the programme get office space, meeting rooms, access to mentors and industry experts, training workshops, networking with other founders, and help with legal and administrative work. The page says the incubator connects startups with investors and funding partners, but it does not name them.

Who can apply

The incubator page speaks to budding entrepreneurs with an early idea and to established startups that want to grow. The institute's innovation policy says the facilities are open to NMIT students, faculty and alumni. Applications are made for a registered company, or by the founders, who must register the company within three months. A business plan is screened by an expert committee.

Innovation council and student cell

The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) was set up under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell. It runs workshops, ideation programmes, hackathons and mentoring for students and faculty. NMIT was sanctioned as an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre by DST's NSTEDB in April 2010. Enigma, the student-run Entrepreneurship Cell, organises Ideathon 6.0 and the Enfinity festival.

Facilities

The college lists fourteen multi-disciplinary labs, including robotics, quantum computing, cyber security and additive manufacturing. Its innovation policy also describes a prototyping lab.

Who runs it

NMIT is part of the Nitte Education Trust. The innovation council sits in Block D, ground floor, and the incubator is on the campus in Yelahanka.

Equity

The innovation policy gives two different equity ranges, in different sections. Ask the incubator to confirm the terms in writing before you agree to anything.
