VCR Park is a cancer-focused innovation park in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Its website calls it a Cancer Treatment Innovation Hub, and describes it as a facility where service partners, entrepreneurs, ideators and professionals work together to turn ideas into products or services. It rents out laboratory and office space so that a small oncology team does not have to build its own.

Who it is for

VCR Park is for oncology work, not for general startups. Its home page lists who it expects to use it: entrepreneurs and startups that want to lease a lab or office, industry and healthcare professionals who run training and exchange programmes, academic translational scientists who want collaborators, clinical trial groups, and ideators who want to test an idea in vitro, ex vivo and in a clinical setting before commercialising it. If your product is a cancer diagnostic, therapy or research tool, this is the audience. If it is not about cancer, it is unlikely to fit.

What incubation means here

The incubation page lists six services: domain expertise and advisory across the oncology value chain, access to a virtual collaborative platform, managed core lab services, plug-n-play leased lab and office space, business services and government liaisoning, and help with recruitment. This is a space-and-services model. The site does not publish a cohort, a selection round, a fixed duration or an application form.

Facilities

Leased spaces include office space, corporate office space, lab space and a meeting room. Shared facilities include a board room, a training centre, a comprehensive core facility and a lounge for informal meetings. The common shared lab has equipment included in the lease: freezers and refrigerators for cold storage, a biosafety cabinet, a CO2 incubator, a cell counter and an imaging system for tissue culture, incubators and shakers for microbiology, centrifuges, an autoclave, a thermal cycler, gel tanks and a plate reader.

Heavier instruments are available on a pay-for-use basis. The site lists a real-time PCR system, a multimode microplate reader, an IHC and ISH slide-staining system, a next-generation sequencer, a high-content confocal imaging system, an analytical and semipreparative LC system and an FPLC system.

Partners

On its vision page VCR Park names core lab partners for clinical samples, animal models, assay development, circulating tumour cell work, bioinformatics, and clinical trial design and patient recruitment. It also names service partners for artificial intelligence, intellectual property management, and web design and branding. You can use the scientific core on a fee-for-use basis, which keeps the upfront spend on equipment low.
