BIS Certification (ISI Mark)

Mandatory

Mandatory and voluntary product certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards

Validity: Annual renewal with periodic BIS factory inspections

Here is the full bis certification (isi mark) process, end to end — every step and who handles what. Knowing the sequence up front helps you keep documents ready and avoid the back-and-forth that delays most filings.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Product Classification and Standard Identification

We identify the applicable Indian Standard for your product and confirm whether BIS certification is mandatory or voluntary, and whether the product falls under a mandatory certification order.

  2. 2

    Application on BIS Online Portal

We register your company on the BIS online portal, complete the product certification application, and submit all required technical and business documents.

  3. 3

Document Review and Factory Audit Scheduling

BIS reviews the application and schedules a factory audit by a BIS officer to verify manufacturing processes and quality control systems.

  4. 4

    Laboratory Testing

Product samples are drawn by the BIS officer during the factory visit and submitted to a BIS-recognised laboratory for testing against the Indian Standard.

  5. 5

    Grant of Licence

Upon successful completion of the factory audit and satisfactory laboratory test reports, BIS grants the product certification licence and the right to use the ISI Mark.

  6. 6

    Ongoing Surveillance and Renewal

BIS conducts periodic surveillance visits to the factory and market surveillance to verify continued conformance. Annual licence renewal is required.
