Dohyo: Robo Sumo is a head-to-head robotic pushing competition hosted by Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology (GTBIT), New Delhi, as part of IEEE Day 2026. Two remotely controlled robots face off inside a circular arena, and the objective is simple: push the opponent completely outside the boundary or immobilise it. With intense 2-minute matches and knockout rounds, every push, manoeuvre, and positioning decision can decide the winner.

Who It's For The competition is open to all students, and inter-college participants are allowed. Teams of 3 to 5 members can register, making it ideal for engineering students, robotics enthusiasts, and hardware builders looking to test their machine against others.

What to Expect

Head-to-head wireless robot combat in a circular arena of 160 cm diameter with a clearly marked boundary
2-minute matches with knockout rounds
Round Robin format for fewer than 7 teams, with the top 4 qualifying for knockouts
For 7–10 teams, two groups with the top 2 from each group advancing
Semifinal 1: Rank 1 vs Rank 4; Semifinal 2: Rank 2 vs Rank 3; Final between the semifinal winners
Group stage points: Win 3, Draw 1, Loss 0
2 minutes of pit/repair time between rounds
Tiebreaker matches if required

Maximum weight: 8 kg
Maximum dimensions: 30 × 40 × 30 cm
Maximum voltage: 48V DC
Wireless control only; wired control is strictly prohibited
Single operator per match
Mandatory Emergency Stop/Kill Switch
Robots must start from designated positions 20–30 cm apart and remain stationary until the start signal
Weigh-in and verification before competition; re-verification after any repair or modification

Rules & Safety Weapons, projectiles, explosives, pyrotechnics, flammable substances, high-pressure systems, or any mechanism designed to damage another robot or person are strictly prohibited. Intentional interference with another team's wireless control system is not allowed. A robot pushed completely outside the arena boundary is defeated, and a robot with no wheel rotation for approximately 10 seconds may be declared immobilised and defeated. Unsafe operation or rule violations may result in a warning, penalty, or disqualification at the discretion of event officials. The decision of judges and marshals is final.
