Junior Robo Soccer is a competitive robotics event held as part of TechTrix'26, organised by the Navrachna Foundation For Entrepreneurship Development. It blends robotics engineering with the excitement of football, challenging teams to build and pilot a custom wirelessly controlled robot that manoeuvres a ball into the opponent's goal.
What It Is
Teams compete head-to-head in a knockout tournament format. Each team fields a single robot in the arena during a match, and the objective is to get the ball completely across the opponent's goal line. The event is designed for participants who enjoy hands-on robotics, mechanical design, and competitive gaming.
Who It's For
This event is aimed at student teams and young robotics enthusiasts with an interest in building and controlling robots. It is a practical, skill-based competition rather than a startup or business event, but it sits within the broader innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem promoted by the Navrachna Foundation.
What to Expect
- Team Size: 2 participants per team
- Robot Specifications: Maximum dimensions of 350 × 350 mm, maximum weight of 3 kg including chassis, kicking mechanism, and batteries, and a maximum voltage of 3S LiPo / 12V DC. IC engines, pneumatics, and compressors are prohibited.
- Control: Fully wireless (RF or Bluetooth) manual control. Wired tethers and autonomous operation are strictly banned.
- Ball Handling: At least 50% of the ball's surface must remain exposed at all times; mechanisms that fully trap, grab, suction, or swallow the ball are prohibited.
- Pre-Event Inspection: Teams must report to the arena at least 30 minutes before the official start time. Every robot undergoes a technical inspection and weigh-in; robots failing weight, dimension, power, or ball-handling checks will be disqualified before the match begins.
- Arena & Match Format: The arena measures 8 ft × 4 ft with 60 cm wide goal posts on each side. Matches follow a single-elimination knockout format with byes assigned via random draw. A standard match consists of 2 rounds of up to 90 seconds each, with a 30-second break between rounds and teams switching sides. A goal is scored when the ball completely crosses the goal line. A team wins the match by winning both rounds, or winning one and tying the other.
- Tie-Breaker: If tied after 2 rounds, a 3rd Tie-Breaker Round (max 90 seconds, first goal wins) is played. If the 3rd round also ends 0-0, the winner is the team with the fewest accumulated penalties across all three rounds. If goals and penalties are completely tied, judges decide based on Aggression and Control.
- Judging Criteria: Penalties are tallied (not awarded as free kicks) and used as a tie-breaker. Penalties include stalling (5-second rule), goal camping (5-second rule), wall pinning (5-second rule), aggressive ramming, and hand touches (manually resetting a flipped/stuck robot).
- Disqualification: Exceeding published dimensions, weight, or voltage limits; using a wired controller or autonomous operation; ball-trapping/suction mechanisms that leave less than 50% of the ball exposed; deliberately damaging another team's robot; receiving unauthorized external assistance; poor social conduct, misbehaviour, foul/abusive language, or intentional damage to the arena or opponent's robot.
