Robo Sumo is a robotics challenge hosted as part of TechTrix'26, the flagship technical festival organised by the Navrachna Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development at I.T.S Engineering College, Greater Noida. The event pits RC-controlled robots against each other in a sumo-style knockout arena, testing mechanical design, maneuverability, control, and in-the-moment strategy.
What it is
Teams bring a ready-to-compete, wirelessly controlled robot and battle 1v1 in a circular sumo ring roughly 1.5–2 metres in diameter. The objective is simple: push the opponent's robot completely out of the ring. A robot is declared "out" the moment any part of it touches the floor outside the ring. Matches run in a single-elimination knockout bracket, with each bout capped at 5 minutes.
Who it's for
The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from colleges and institutions across India. Teams consist of 2 participants, and a valid institutional or college ID is mandatory for every competitor. Only registered participants may compete, and no individual can be registered on two teams for the same event.
Robot specifications
Format and judging
Every robot undergoes a mandatory technical inspection and weigh-in at least 30 minutes before the official start. Robots failing specifications are disqualified before competing. The bracket is drawn and displayed before matches begin, with byes for uneven team counts assigned by random draw. If neither robot is eliminated within the 5-minute limit, judges decide the advancing winner based on aggression, strategy, and control.
