Abdul Kalam Centre of Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and describes it as a five-year grant covering 2017 to 2022. No page says it was renewed, so treat it as between grants unless the centre tells you otherwise.

The Abdul Kalam Centre is the umbrella the university puts over its startup work. BETF operates as a hub under it, it manages the institute's DST NewGen IEDC grant, and the startups the university writes up are described as incubated at the centre. Its published team is a dean, a research associate and a research scientist.
The university also names a Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, CIED, in the same breath, described as supporting student and faculty entrepreneurs with infrastructure, mentorship and funding, and an Innovation and Startup Promotion Cell said to run pre-incubation, incubation and acceleration programmes in defence, electric mobility, healthcare and deep technology. Neither has a page, an eligibility statement or an intake of its own, so the centre and BETF are the parts you can actually act on.

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre is a separate cell from the Abdul Kalam Centre and much older. It says its aim is to turn job seekers into job creators and to help students incubate technology ventures, and it points enrolled students at entrepreneurship electives run by the Department of Management Studies, covering business plan frameworks, supply chain, strategic management, social entrepreneurship, micro finance, micro enterprise development, project management and business economics.
Its page also carries a long table of entrepreneurship weeks, idea generation workshops and talks. That table runs from 2010 to 2013 and stops, so the page is best read as a record rather than a current offer.

We checked the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board's published list of Technology Business Incubators on 24 September 2026 and the institute is not on it, so it is not a DST-supported TBI. Its Institution's Innovation Council, the Ministry of Education body, has been star-rated: four stars for 2018-19, four and a half for 2019-20, four for 2020-21 and three and a half for 2023-24. An IIC rating is a rating of campus innovation activity, not an incubator recognition and not a funding award.
Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)
Listed at entry 577 of the Ministry's published List of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, as "Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute" (THIRUVALLUR, TAMIL NADU), checked 24 September 2026. This is the status that lets an innovator name the institute as their Host Institute when applying on the ministry's own portal. The list gives no approval date, no period and no status column, so whether the recognition is current cannot be told from it; and being listed is a capacity registration, not evidence that the institute has ever hosted an approved idea.
