The incubator has published a call for applications to its second DST-iTBI cohort. It invites innovative startups, student entrepreneurs and aspiring founders, and it is pitched at taking an idea to a scalable venture by raising its technology readiness and opening up funding routes. No opening or closing date appears with the call, so check with the incubator before you apply.

Incubation

The incubator's standing three-phase incubation, running from early validation through to a company ready to scale and graduate.

Outside the cohort call, the incubator describes incubation as three phases with set lengths, each assessed on the founding team, the product, management, market and commercial progress, and finance.

How the phases work: phase one runs one to six months and is about confirming the product solves a real customer problem, with a working product and a few beta users. Phase two runs twelve months and tests whether the product sells, with paying customers and a working sales and marketing engine. Phase three runs six months, and is where a company with a working sales process prepares to scale, raises investment, builds out distribution and gets ready to leave the incubator.

NIDHI inclusive Technology Business Incubator (i-TBI), Department of Science and Technology

Stated by the incubator on its own site, which is titled DST i-TBI, NEC and carries a 'Supported by NIDHI' banner linking to the NIDHI site, and whose careers page says the college established an inclusive Technology Business Incubator with the Department of Science and Technology. Independently confirmed at entry 39 of the Department's own published List of DST NIDHI inclusive Technology Business Incubators, which names National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu with a thrust of IoT and circular economy, checked on 25 September 2026. That list gives no sanction date, no funding period and no status column, so whether the support is current cannot be told from it. Note that the website the Department's list records for this incubator is an older site of theirs, not the one carrying their current cohort call.

Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)

Listed at entry 711 of the Ministry's published List of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, as "NATIONAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE" (TUTICORIN, TAMIL NADU), checked 24 September 2026. The list gives no approval date, no period and no status column, so whether the recognition is current cannot be told from it. The incubator also asserts it on its own pages, calling itself an MSME approved incubation centre, and it publishes vendor tenders for MSME-funded project series carrying ministry idea reference numbers — which is evidence it has actually been running work under the scheme, not only that it is listed.
