Which route you want

• Incubation at the centre: use the incubation application form on the centre's own site. It is open all year with no closing date.
• Instrument training only: the skill-enhancement days on HPLC, NMR, cell culture and genomics are separate, are charged for, and are registered for per session. Write to aic@niperguwahati.in about those.
• Bio-NEST: that is NIPER Guwahati's own incubation centre, with a separate call and a separate address — bionest@niperguwahati.in. It is not the same route as this one.

Before you fill the form

• You can apply without a company. Write "N/A" for the startup name if you have not registered yet; company type and company PAN are asked for only if you have.
• Have identity documents ready. You will need to upload a valid ID — PAN, or Aadhaar or a driving licence — and the same for every co-founder you list.
• Decide what kind of space you need. The form makes you pick one of physical incubation, virtual incubation, shared space or co-working space. Pick honestly: virtual is the right answer if you will not be working on campus.
• Pick your area of interest from their list: healthcare, medical device, agriculture, food technology, biotechnology, waste management, or other.

What the written answers should cover

Five short answers of about two hundred words each carry the application. Write them for a reviewer who is a pharmaceutical scientist:

• The project you would actually run at the centre — not your company vision, but the work.
• The background and any preliminary data you already have.
• The problem you are solving.
• Why your approach beats the similar technology already available.
• Whether the work involves clinical or human samples or pathogenic strains, and what biosafety or ethics clearance it would need.

That last question is not a formality. The centre's lab equipment is shared, so be specific about what you would handle and what containment it needs.

What the centre is looking for

• Fit with its four focus areas. Health and pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, agriculture and allied fields, and water, sanitation and solid waste management. Its incubatee list runs heavily to food, nutraceuticals, phytochemicals and medical devices, with some robotics and digital health.
• Work that needs a lab. The offer is bench space and shared instruments, so an application that needs neither has little to gain here.
• A North East connection helps. The centre says it exists for students and graduates of its host institute and other North East India institutions, startups and eligible residents, and it has a stated interest in traditional healers of the region bringing products to market with proper validation.

How selection works

The centre does not publish a selection process or a scoring method. What its records show is that incubatees are onboarded by signing an agreement with the centre, and that several were welcomed at its North East Bio-Incubators Conference. Treat the application as the start of a conversation and follow up at info@aicniperguwahati.in.

Worth knowing

• The centre publishes no incubation fee and no equity policy, so ask what incubation costs and what it takes before you commit.
• Its "upcoming events" and notifications pages are empty at the moment, so the past events page is the best place to see what it is actually running.
• It hires for its own team too, and posts vacancies on a recruitment page.

AIC NIPER-Guwahati Foundation is a healthcare and life-sciences incubator on the campus of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati, at Changsari in North Guwahati, Kamrup district, Assam. NIPER Guwahati set it up as a Section 8 company in 2023 to run an Atal Incubation Centre under the Atal Innovation Mission, a NITI Aayog programme. It describes itself as a healthcare incubator for the North-East region, and it runs its own website, board, team and application form separately from the institute's academic site.

What it works on

The centre names four focus areas: health and pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, agriculture and allied fields, and water, sanitation and solid waste management. Its own application form adds medical devices and food technology to that list. A second stated interest is helping traditional healers in North East India take products to market with the scientific validation and regulatory compliance those products need.

How incubation works

There is one way in and it is open all the time: an incubation application form on the centre's website. There is no cohort, no closing date and no batch cycle announced on the site. On the form you choose the kind of support you want — physical incubation, virtual incubation, shared space or co-working space — and you answer five short written questions about the project you would run at the centre, the background work behind it, the problem you are solving, how your approach compares with what is already on the market, and whether you would be handling clinical or human samples or pathogenic strains that need biosafety or ethics clearance.

In practice, new incubatees have been brought on board around the centre's own events. At the North East Bio-Incubators Conference in January 2025 it signed agreements with a group of newly onboarded incubatees on the second day.

Who can apply

You do not need a registered company. The form asks for the startup's name but tells you to write "N/A" if it is not registered, and asks for company type and company PAN only if it is. What it does require from every applicant is a personal identity document — PAN, or Aadhaar or a driving licence — and the same for each co-founder you list. The centre describes the people it wants to help as students and graduates of NIPER Guwahati and of other education and research institutions in North East India, startup businesses, and eligible residents, along with early-stage healthcare companies, NGOs, innovators and traditional healers. No state-domicile rule is published, and the centre does not publish an incubation fee or an equity policy either way.

Facilities

The centre lists a lab, a co-working area and a shared instrumentation pool for incubatees. The instruments named are an analytical HPLC, a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, a laboratory spray dryer, a refrigerated centrifuge, minus-twenty-degree freezers, a biosafety cabinet, an anaerobic chamber, a bacteriological incubator, a rotary evaporator, an autoclave, a homogeniser, a digital orbital shaker, a thermomixer, a two-dimensional rocker and an ultrapure water purification system. Its About page describes what an incubatee gets as laboratory space and equipment to use, alongside mentoring and networking.

Separately from incubation, the centre runs paid hands-on training days on that equipment — high-performance liquid chromatography, NMR spectroscopy, cell culture and microscopy, and genomics — open to students, researchers and people working in pharma and biotech. Some of these are run with the Central Instruments Facility at NIPER Guwahati.

Scale

The centre's own figures, undated and self-reported, are more than twenty-one start-ups and MSMEs supported, more than twenty-one training programmes and workshops held, and more than nineteen mentors. Its published incubatee list carries eighteen entries, so the startup figure and the list do not match; the mentor figure does, with nineteen mentors named. The incubatees work on low-glycaemic-index rice, whey-based functional drinks, fish-scale supplements, stevia-and-Assam-tea blends, herbal skincare, mushroom-based leather, antibiotic-free poultry farming, a chewable dentifrice, hospital air sterilisation, a teleoperated robotic ultrasound system, a wearable assistive robotics system and a remote homecare platform for elderly patients.

Who runs it

The board is three NIPER Guwahati faculty members: Dr Pullapanthula Radhakrishnanand, Professor and In-Charge of Pharmaceutical Analysis; Dr Amit Alexander, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics; and Dr Sanjay K Banerjee, Associate Professor of Biotechnology. The operating team is seven people — Dr Krishna Undela as Coordinator, Dr B.B.V. Bindu as CEO, Dr Biswadeep Das as Incubation Manager, plus technical, admin and finance, events and lab staff. Nineteen mentors are listed, most of them from Assam's hospitals, universities and industry, including surgeons, an Assam Agricultural University research director, IIT Guwahati engineering faculty and legal and regulatory specialists.

The centre posts its own vacancies on a recruitment page; the current listing is a walk-in interview for an Assistant Manager for finance and administration. One thing to keep separate

NIPER Guwahati also runs a Bio-NEST incubation centre, which puts out its own call for incubatees and has its own contact address. Bio-NEST is the institute's, not the Atal Incubation Centre's — the centre's website does not mention it — so if you are applying to one, check which one you mean.
