Centre for Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (CIIE) is a not-for-profit centre at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in Jharkhand. It is the nodal centre in the institute for supporting ventures from the start-up phase to scaling operations, whether they commercialise technology, grow an existing enterprise or provide services to larger businesses.

How incubation works

CIIE welcomes ventures from any academic discipline, not only mining, petroleum, earth sciences, ICT, biotechnology, food technology and agriculture. Applicants fill in an application form that describes their enterprise or idea and how it can grow into a scalable business. An evaluation committee screens the application for financial and technical feasibility. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to pitch to a selection panel. Selected ventures sign an incubation agreement that covers rules, consideration, equity holding and use of laboratories and facilities.

Who can apply

There are separate application forms for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad students and alumni, for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad faculty, and for others. The centre's 2018 incubation policy requires an incorporated private or public limited company before an application is considered. Companies promoted by faculty, full-time students or government staff need a No Objection Certificate from their employer or the competent authority. The policy also describes a virtual incubation track for companies located outside the campus.

Facilities and support

CIIE aims to provide space and infrastructure, access to business support services, seed funds, mentoring and training. Space, internet, electricity and laboratory use are charged under the centre's policy, and facilities are allotted subject to availability.
