Track record

What CMRIT Incubation Center reports about its portfolio.

The count of 56 startups is the centre's own published figure, covering the CMRIT ecosystem from 2019 to 2026. The centre also says many of those startups are recognised by DPIIT or registered as MSMEs — that is a fact about the startups, not about the centre.

56Startups supportedThe centre's own figure for the CMRIT ecosystem between 2019 and 2026, not an audited count and not limited to the incubation centre alone.

All figures self-reported — sites.google.com, as of 2026.

Recognitions & empanelments

Official approvals this incubator holds.

The only recognition the centre claims is the Ministry of MSME Host Institute status, and it checks out against the Ministry's own list. It does not claim an Atal Incubation Centre or a DST-recognised technology business incubator, and nothing on its pages supports either.

Host Institute, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India

Confirmed against the Ministry's own published Host Institute list, which carries CMR Institute of Technology Bengaluru at the AECS Layout address. The recognition supports proof-of-concept work by students, faculty, alumni and innovators from outside the college. The centre does not publish how long the recognition runs, and the Ministry's list does not show it.

How to apply to CMRIT Incubation Center

Which programme to ask for

  • You have an idea and nothing built yet: ask about Pre-Incubation. It is aimed at student teams, early-stage innovators and first-time founders, and covers customer discovery, business model work and incorporation guidance.
  • You have a working prototype and a business model: ask about the Incubation Program. It expects you to be ready to run a company from a registered address.
  • You are trying to scale, raise or enter a new market: ask about the Accelerator, which is a time-bound cohort with investor pitch coaching and demo day access.
  • You only want to validate a proof of concept: ask about the MSME Host Institute pathway. It is the route the centre points external professionals at.
  • You want training before you commit: the Technology Startup Boot Camp is short and cohort-based. Faculty can ask about the Faculty Development Programme; stuck founders can ask about the Leadership Program.

How applications work

  • There is no online application to submit. Email is the route in.
  • Send your first message to head.incubation@cmrit.ac.in with a short introduction, what you are building, and the stage you are at. Name the programme you think fits.
  • For the MSME Host Institute pathway, email cmrit.incubation@cmrit.ac.in and put MSME-HI in the subject line.
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so there is no deadline to wait for.
  • The centre asks for a facility visit to be arranged by email. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday by appointment.

How selection works

Admission to every programme is through a structured application and an interview. For the MSME Host Institute route the centre states the criteria it reviews against: novelty, technology readiness, and proof-of-concept potential. Approved applicants are onboarded onto a track with defined milestones and deliverables.

What to have ready

  • A clear statement of the problem and who has it, and evidence you have spoken to those people.
  • Your current stage, stated honestly — prototype, pilot customers, early revenue or none of these. The three incubation stages are separated by exactly this.
  • Whether your company is incorporated, and if not, whether you intend to. The Incubation Program is framed around running a company from a registered address.
  • What you need from the centre specifically: bench and makerspace time, mentoring, IP help, or investor introductions.
  • If you are applying from outside CMRIT, say so plainly. Outside founders are in scope, and the centre says so on its own pages.

Worth knowing

  • The centre's recognition is as a Host Institute under the Ministry of MSME. That is a real, checkable status — it appears on the Ministry's own published Host Institute list as CMR Institute of Technology Bengaluru. It is not an Atal Incubation Centre and not a DST-recognised technology business incubator, and the centre does not claim to be either.
  • The centre does not publish whether its programmes are charged or whether it takes equity. Ask before you commit. It does say that seminar halls and advanced labs are available on a commercial basis.
  • A banner advertising a boot camp held in April 2026 was still showing on the site in late September 2026, so treat dated notices there with care and confirm by email.

About CMRIT Incubation Center

The CMRIT Incubation Center is the incubator run by CMR Institute of Technology at its Kundalahalli campus on ITPL Main Road in Bengaluru. It takes in student teams, faculty researchers, alumni and founders from outside the college, and it is recognised by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as a Host Institute. The centre says the CMRIT ecosystem has incubated 56 startups between 2019 and 2026.

The present building was inaugurated on 21 January 2026 by the Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, and the Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot. The centre sits inside CMR Institute of Technology, which is part of the CMR Group of Institutions.

How programmes work

There are two tracks running side by side. The capacity development track is training: a short Technology Startup Boot Camp for people ready to start a company with a workable business model, a Faculty Development Programme for Entrepreneurship aimed at teachers across engineering, management and allied subjects, and a Leadership Program for Entrepreneurs for founders who have stalled and need peer and mentor review to find the bottleneck.

The incubation track has three stages. Pre-Incubation is for the idea and early-validation stage and covers customer discovery, business model work, patent and IP protection, company incorporation guidance and technical mentoring. Incubation is for founders with a working prototype and a defined business model who are ready to run a company from a registered address; it opens up the college's infrastructure and technical resources and adds training in team management, operations and governance, pitching and go-to-market. The Accelerator is a time-bound cohort for founders trying to scale, raise money or enter new markets, with business plan work, investor pitch coaching, demo day access and investor introductions.

Alongside these, the MSME Host Institute route is a separate pathway for anyone wanting to validate an idea at proof-of-concept level. It runs in five steps — apply, review against novelty and technology readiness, onboard onto a track with agreed milestones, build in the makerspace, then validate with early users. Support is grouped as design, strategy and execution: industrial design and CAD work, market and competitor analysis, IP strategy, prototype building, pilot deployment and investor connect.

The centre also runs events. FORGE-X, a 24-hour national deep-tech hackathon organised with the Basic Mechanical Engineering department in association with the Institution's Innovation Council, ran over 8 and 9 April 2026 across artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum technologies, semiconductors, biotechnology, spacetech, cybersecurity and climatetech, and was open to students from any recognised institution, alumni and early-stage deep-tech startups. Earlier events include a Business IDEA Hunt in November 2022 and an entrepreneurship boot camp on business planning in May 2023.

Who can apply

You do not have to be at CMRIT. The centre's own wording is that it encourages entrepreneurship among students, faculty, alumni and external innovators alike, and that its doors are open whether you are a student with a prototype, a faculty member with a research breakthrough or an external innovator looking for a launchpad. Under the MSME Host Institute recognition it names external professionals explicitly — innovators and professionals from outside CMRIT expanding their business with support in design, strategy and execution.

Which stage you enter depends on readiness rather than affiliation. Pre-Incubation suits student teams, early-stage innovators and first-time founders. Incubation expects a working prototype and a defined business model, and describes incubatees as ready to launch a company with a registered address. The Accelerator is for founders already looking to scale or raise.

How to apply

Admission to every programme is by a structured application and interview, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis rather than in fixed windows. There is no online form to fill. Write to head.incubation@cmrit.ac.in with a short introduction, your idea or venture, and the stage you are at. External innovators asking about the MSME Host Institute route should email cmrit.incubation@cmrit.ac.in with MSME-HI in the subject line. The same inbox handles mentor offers and partnership proposals. Facility tours can be requested by email and are usually scheduled on weekdays. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with Saturday by appointment.

Facilities

The centre describes a fully air-conditioned facility of over 14,000 square feet. It holds 21 dedicated startup cubicles and 36 flexible co-working workstations, with office options running from a single seat up to a private cabin as a team grows. There are meeting and board rooms with presentation and conferencing equipment, training rooms for workshops and mentoring, a secure server room, high-speed internet with UPS and diesel generator backup, private phone booths, a pantry, informal collaboration zones, front-office and visitor management, and printing and scanning.

A makerspace sits alongside it for rapid prototyping and testing, with CNC machines, lathes, 3D printers, a laser cutter, welding stations, Arduino and Raspberry Pi boards, an oscilloscope, soldering stations and a range of hand and power tools. Incubatees can also use CMRIT's library, department laboratories and Centres of Excellence, and can book seminar halls and advanced labs on a commercial basis.

Sectors and startups

The centre names five sectors its portfolio works across: healthcare, including medical devices and diagnostics; agriculture and agri-tech, including precision farming and livestock monitoring; sustainability, including clean-tech and waste management; robotics and automation, including industrial robotics and IoT; and education, including edtech platforms and skill development.

Its faculty startup list names Agriharaa, Techforce, AI Tech Solutions, Revol2Robo, Rayanam Learning Solution, Kousalya Prayogha, Artrium and Rootery, with Space Tech Orbital listed as a past faculty startup. The student startup page carries a heading but no readable list.

Who runs it and where

The centre is at D Block, 132 AECS Layout, ITPL Main Road, Kundalahalli, Bangalore 560037, next to Whitefield and the ITPL corridor in east Bengaluru. No individual staff are named on its pages. CMR Institute of Technology lists its own job openings on its careers page.
