IIMA Ventures (formerly CIIE.CO and Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship) is the incubation, acceleration, and investment platform at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). Established in 2002 with support from the Department of Science and Technology and the Government of Gujarat, IIMA Ventures has grown into one of India's most prolific startup support organizations. Based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, it operates across the full innovation continuum from ideation to growth-stage investment.
IIMA Ventures has invested in over 400 startups at pre-seed and seed stages, accelerated over 1,000 startups, mentored and coached over 5,000 ventures, and its portfolio companies have collectively raised over $3 billion in follow-on capital. As of early 2026, the platform has invested in 364 companies.
IIMA Ventures is among the most established academic incubators in India, and its track record of backing companies that became unicorns and went public gives it credibility that few institutional incubators can match. It bridges the gap between academic innovation and market-ready ventures, leveraging IIM Ahmedabad's management expertise, research capabilities, and alumni network. The platform also serves as a partner for government programs, including the iDEX defence innovation initiative.
IIMA Ventures runs multiple programs including pre-seed and seed investment through dedicated AIF funds, acceleration programs for early-stage startups, sector-specific programs in deeptech, climate tech, and digitization, and the iDEX program for defence innovation in partnership with DIO. The platform recently launched a ₹40 crore fund to back 30 deep-tech startups. It also runs mentorship cohorts, founder bootcamps, and hosts events connecting startups with investors and corporates. The Ahmedabad campus and satellite offices provide co-working and incubation infrastructure.
IIMA Ventures' portfolio includes Razorpay (unicorn fintech platform), Ola (mobility unicorn), Agnikul (space launch startup), Fourth Partner Energy (renewable energy), CreditVidya (credit assessment, acquired), GUVI (vernacular education), and Biosense (medical diagnostics). The portfolio has seen 1 unicorn, 2 IPOs, and 19 acquisitions.
Early-stage founders across deeptech, climate tech, fintech, agritech, healthtech, and other sectors. Founders benefit from IIM Ahmedabad's academic resources, management expertise, and extensive alumni network. The platform is particularly strong for founders who need business strategy support alongside technical development.
IIMA Ventures has demonstrated that academic institutions can produce world-class startup outcomes. Its portfolio proves that tier-1 startups can emerge from outside the Bangalore-Mumbai-Delhi corridor, strengthening Ahmedabad's position as an innovation hub. The platform's evolution from a university incubator to a full-stack investment and acceleration platform provides a model for other academic institutions in India.
