Programmes they run

Standing programmes at Dr. C.V. Raman University, separate from the funding calls above.

The incubator runs two programmes today: a three-month pre-incubation track for idea-stage student teams, and an eighteen-month incubation programme for incorporated startups.

Three-month pre-incubation for idea-stage student teams with a business plan and no company incorporated yet.

Best for: Student teams at idea stage with a business plan and no company yet

  • Idea
  • 3 months
  • Paid
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

Raman LaunchPad is the pre-incubation track of CVRU iTBI for teams still at the idea stage. The programme runs for three months.

Who can apply

  • An idea-stage team with high potential for prototype or technology commercialisation and no incorporated company.
  • A student team currently enrolled in a UG or PG programme at any university or college.
  • A business plan ready before applying. An entry in a national-level business plan contest is preferred.

Graduated startups from pre-incubation may be added to the incubation programme when a place is available.

How to apply: use the application form linked from the incubator's page. A one-time fee applies to each cohort.

Official programme page

Eighteen-month incubation programme for incorporated startups, taken in person or virtually, with fees and an equity stake on funding routed through the incubator.

Best for: Incorporated Indian startups, no more than two years old, in the incubator's focus sectors

  • 18 months
  • Hybrid
  • Paid, takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

SAARTHI is the regular incubation programme of CVRU iTBI for startups that are incorporated companies. It runs for eighteen months, in person at the Bilaspur campus or virtually.

Who can apply

  • An incorporated company in India, with at least 51% of its equity held by Indian citizens. DPIIT Startup India recognition is suggested.
  • An applicant who is an Indian citizen and at least 18 years old.
  • A startup no more than two years old from incorporation.
  • A startup that has not secured a central or state government grant above the published ceiling.
  • A sector from the incubator's focus list. Startups outside it may still receive incubation support.

How selection works: the incubator invites applications in cohorts. A screening and monitoring committee selects startups on set parameters and sector focus.

Fees and equity: a physical seat is charged monthly, bi-annually or annually, and a virtual startup is charged per startup, with a package for the full eighteen months. The incubator takes a small equity stake on funding routed through it, on a published scale. Where a funding scheme rules out equity or fees, that policy does not apply.

The incubator's pages describe this programme's stage in two different ways: idea or proof-of-concept in one place, and MVP or prototype in another. Check the stage with the incubator before applying.

How to apply: use the application form linked from the incubator's page.

About Dr. C.V. Raman University

CVRU iTBI is the Technology Business Incubator hosted by Dr. C.V. Raman University in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. It supports idea-stage startups from Chhattisgarh and central India, and runs its incubation work through the CVRU i-TBI Foundation, a Section 8 company.

How the programmes work

The incubator runs two programmes. Raman LaunchPad is a three-month pre-incubation track for idea-stage student teams that have not yet incorporated a company. SAARTHI is an eighteen-month incubation programme for startups that are incorporated companies. SAARTHI can be taken in person at the Bilaspur campus or virtually. Graduates of pre-incubation can move into the incubation programme when a place is available.

Who can apply

Pre-incubation is open to student teams enrolled in a UG or PG programme at any university or college, with a business plan ready. Incubation is open to incorporated Indian companies with at least 51% Indian citizen equity, founded within the last two years, and aligned with the incubator's sector focus. The incubator says startups outside its focus areas may still receive support.

Facilities

The incubator has a dedicated space of 10,000 square feet for common facilities, a FabLab, a prototyping laboratory, meeting rooms, a video conferencing facility, a computer lab and a server room. Co-working space with high bandwidth internet is part of the same space.

Services

Startups get mentoring through ideation, development and scaling, workshops on business planning, finance, marketing and technology, and legal and accounting help through partner experts. The incubator also lists office space, network access to investors and industry leaders, intern and hiring support, and events and competitions.

Funding and equity

The incubator is catalysed and supported by the Department of Science & Technology under the NIDHI i-TBI scheme. It takes a small equity stake on funding routed through it, on a published scale. Where a funding scheme itself rules out equity or fees, that policy does not apply.

Scale and track record

The incubator's pages do not give a current count of startups supported. An innovation page on the university site lists past incubatees with start dates between 2018 and 2020, under a centre called CRIIC. That list is not a current intake, and the two names for the incubation work are not explained on the pages.
