How to apply to Centre for Medical Innovation – GIMS Foundation (CMI-GIMS)

Choosing the right route

  • Startup Clinic: for startups with a healthcare or medtech product that want clinical feedback. It runs on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
  • Diseases Prevention Cohort: the Centre invites individuals and teams, but publishes no dates. Ask about the current intake before you apply.

How applications work

  • The Centre's menu links to an Apply Online form and a separate Startup Clinic form. Use the one that matches what you want.
  • For questions, write to the Centre's inbox at bioincubator@gims.ac.in.
  • Confirm the current clinic date by email, because the Centre's pages are not always reachable and do not show a calendar.

What to bring

  • A clear description of the clinical problem your product addresses and who in a hospital would use it.
  • Any early evidence you have, because the Centre's services centre on idea validation and efficacy and clinical trials.
  • Questions on intellectual property if you want to use the IPR Clinic.

Good to know

  • No fees, equity terms or grant amounts are published. Ask before you commit.
  • The Centre says it works with clinicians at a public hospital, so products that solve a real ward or outpatient problem fit best.

About Centre for Medical Innovation – GIMS Foundation (CMI-GIMS)

The Centre for Medical Innovation – GIMS Foundation, also called CMI-GIMS and shown on its site as the GIMS Bio-Incubator, is a medtech incubator in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is set up as a Section 8 not-for-profit company under the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), a public medical institute. In its own advertisement for a chief executive, the Foundation describes itself as the first public hospital-based MedTech innovation incubator in Uttar Pradesh, working under the StartInUP policy framework of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Its website describes it as the first public hospital-based medical incubation centre.

What it does

The Centre's stated aim is to support the development and commercialisation of medical technologies and software solutions, and to bring clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and industry together. It also says it focuses on cost-effective medical solutions for underserved populations, and on bringing new innovations into medical education and research. The Foundation's job advertisement describes work for early-stage MedTech, diagnostic and digital health startups, covering ideation support, validation trials, product refinement and go-to-market readiness.

Startup Clinic

The Centre runs the GIMS Startup Clinic, which it calls the first clinic for startups in a public hospital. It operates every 2nd Tuesday of the month and, in the Centre's words, opens its doors to startups nationwide. The services it lists are clinical mentoring from experienced clinicians, idea validation with expert feedback, efficacy trials, support for clinical trials, an IPR Clinic, funding opportunities, and a network of shared opportunities from institutions across the country. The clinic is the clearest way in for a founder who is not connected to GIMS.

Diseases Prevention Cohort

The Centre's home page also talks about a Diseases Prevention Cohort, inviting individuals and teams from across industries and regions to work on preventing disease. No dates, intake status or selection process are published, so check with the Centre before planning around it.

Who can apply

The Centre does not restrict its calls to GIMS students or staff. The Startup Clinic is open to startups nationwide, and the cohort invitation is open to individuals and teams from any industry or region. No incorporation, stage or location requirement is stated. Its menu links to two online application forms, one labelled Apply Online and one labelled Startup Clinic. We could not open the forms, so the questions they ask are not described here.

Who runs it

The Foundation reports to a Board of Directors and is led by a chief executive. It advertised that post in 2025 and says it was to function as a self-reliant, financially sustainable innovation hub that builds incubation programmes, intellectual property and clinical validation. The Centre's site lists the Director of GIMS, a faculty in-charge of the incubator and a head of the Centre as its team.

What we could not confirm

The Centre's pages do not publish a startup count, a portfolio, fees, equity terms, or any dedicated incubator facilities such as lab or desk space. We have not listed any facilities, because the hospital's own wards and labs belong to GIMS, not to the incubator. The Centre also does not publish a government incubator recognition on its own pages. We checked the Department of Science and Technology's published lists of NIDHI inclusive and technology business incubators and did not find GIMS in either.

Location and contact

The Centre is at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh 201310. Its contact inbox is bioincubator@gims.ac.in. The GIMS website and the incubator site were both showing a visitor-check page when we last tried them, so confirm that the Startup Clinic is still running before you travel.
