Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar)

IIT Ropar (Indian Institute of Technology Ropar), located in Rupnagar, Punjab, is one of India's newer IITs established in 2008 — and has rapidly emerged as a major deep-tech startup hub, having incubated 450+ startups as of recent reports.

Incubation Infrastructure

IIT Ropar operates two key innovation and startup structures:

1. Centre for Innovation and Business Incubation (CIBI) Established in 2013, CIBI provides incubation services for technology and knowledge-based entrepreneurship. It focuses on:

• Accelerating innovation and business incubation
• Building networks between academia, financial institutions, and industries
• Providing value-added services: mentoring, legal, financial, technical, and IP support

2. Technology Business Incubator Foundation (TBIF) TBIF is committed to nurturing innovation regionally and nationally to facilitate employment generation. It received ₹5 Crore in grants to establish a full-fledged business incubator in Punjab. TBIF provides:

• Seed funding and access to angel networks
• State-of-the-art physical infrastructure
• Market linkages and investor connect

• Prototype Development and Innovation Fund (PDIF): Supports prototyping across industry, academia, and government
• IIT Ropar Ventures Program: An E-Cell initiative for student entrepreneurs
• Collaboration with Punjab government for state-level startup ecosystem development
