National Design Business Incubator (NDBI) was established in 2005 within the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, with support from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India. NDBI's core mission is to nurture a culture of entrepreneurship among designers — transforming creative ideas into commercially viable products and services.
NDBI blends design thinking with entrepreneurship, helping founders integrate user experience, form, function, and sustainability into their offerings. The incubator runs Pre-Incubation and Full Incubation Programs, providing access to world-class prototyping labs, workshops, and design mentors. It focuses on industrial design, digital design, sustainability, social innovation, and creative enterprises.
NDBI has incubated 100+ startups across diverse sectors including healthcare, fashion, education, and mobility. It celebrated 20 years of fostering design-driven innovation in India in 2024.
