About RMK ENGINEERING COLLEGE

The RMKEC Incubation Centre is the start-up incubator of R.M.K. Engineering College, an autonomous institution in Kavaraipettai, Tamil Nadu. It helps engineering students turn ideas into working prototypes and, later, into companies.

How the programmes work

The centre supports student ideas from concept validation through prototype creation. Once a working prototype exists, the centre helps with industry collaboration and government support, and with finding partners and funding to take the product to market. The centre also guides and mentors budding entrepreneurs and connects them with venture capitalists.

The main route in is the RMK Student Start-up Programme, which offers seed money and facilities to selected start-ups. Its stated thrust areas include information and communication technology, Internet of Things, agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, clean-tech, services, energy and water.

Who can apply

The RMK Student Start-up Programme is open to engineering students and alumni of RMKEC. Selection is by open competition on an online form, followed by a presentation to the start-up advisory committee.

Facilities

The incubation centre occupies a combined area of 2000sq ft. Start-ups set up on campus get workspace, communication and computing facilities, and help with company registration and patent filing. The college's centres of excellence and its AICTE IDEA Lab are college facilities; the pages do not state how incubated teams can use them.

Scale

The centre states that it provides facilities for entrepreneurs to establish 153 start-ups, 10 of them with GST registration, on campus. The page is not dated, so the figure should be read as a count stated by the college at an unknown date.

Recognition

The centre is recognized by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India (Ref. No. HI/TN/568/00006), and describes itself as one of the few technology incubators in Tamil Nadu with that recognition. The college is affiliated to Anna University and approved by AICTE.

Locations

The centre is on the college campus at RSM Nagar, Gummidipoondi Taluk, Kavaraipettai, Tamil Nadu 601206.
