Recognitions & empanelments
Official approvals this incubator holds.
The incubator names one backer on its own pages: BIRAC's BioNEST programme. It does not publish when that support runs to.
BIRAC BioNEST bio-incubator
The incubator states on its own site that it was established with financial support from BIRAC's BioNEST programme, and the BIRAC mark is the only recognition shown. It does not publish the funding period, so whether that support is current cannot be told from its pages. Government incubator lists separately carry an older "University of Delhi South Campus TBI" entry under the Department of Science and Technology; no page belonging to this incubator claims that status, so we do not record it.
How to apply to BioNEST-UDSC, University of Delhi South Campus
Check you are looking at the right incubator
Government incubator lists carry a separate, older entry for a technology business incubator at University of Delhi South Campus. That entry has no website, no working email and no page anywhere, and the lists disagree with each other about who funded it and what it works on. The incubation you can actually apply to on this campus today is BioNEST-UDSC, in the Biotech Building. The University of Delhi also runs a separate incubator on its North Campus — that is a different body with its own intake.
Make sure you fit the area
This is a life-sciences bench, not a general incubator. The strongest fit is work on bioactives — diagnostics, therapeutics, secondary metabolites, industrial enzymes, bio-inoculants, biosimilars — or on molecular and cell biology tools. Other life-sciences work is taken case by case, and the deciding question is whether the facilities you would need are there and whether someone can mentor you. Say early in your application exactly which instruments and which lab conditions your process needs; that is what the decision turns on.
Have the company registered first
The stated rule leads with a registered company holding an idea, prototype product or process that needs more development before it can be sold. If you are an individual researcher rather than a company, the route in is being funded through another programme to test a technology — BIG grantees and privately funded individuals are named as examples — so have that funding in place before you apply.
How applications and selection work
Write to the incubator's inbox or use the application linked from its site. There is no published deadline; a notice runs permanently on the website and advertisements appear twice a year in a national newspaper, so apply when you are ready rather than waiting for a call to open.
Selection is a short presentation of your idea to an Advisory Committee. Prepare for a technical audience of working scientists: what the technology does, what stage it has reached, what you still have to prove at the bench, and what you need from the facility to prove it. If you are selected you sign an agreement before incubation starts, so read it for the residency terms.
Understand what is free and what is charged
Full-time incubation gives you lab space and the basic instrumentation that goes with it. Using the other equipment is charged at approved rates, so build instrument time into your own plan and ask for the current charge list before you commit. The incubator takes no equity. If you do not need to move in, ask about part-time access instead — outside companies and academics can book equipment time by email without being incubated.
Use the free sessions to get known
The incubator runs open online sessions on intellectual property that anyone can join. They are a low-cost way to meet the team and see how they work before you apply.
About BioNEST-UDSC, University of Delhi South Campus
BioNEST-UDSC is a bio-incubator for life-sciences startups, on the ground floor of the Biotech Building at University of Delhi South Campus on Benito Juarez Road in New Delhi. It was set up with support from BIRAC's BioNEST programme and is run by faculty of the university's Department of Microbiology, led by a Coordinator and three Nodal Officers alongside a full-time chief executive and technical officer. It is open to founders from outside the university, not only to people studying or working there.
How incubation works
Support comes in two modes. Full-time incubation gives you physical lab space — either a laboratory module or part of a laboratory, sized to what your work needs — together with the basic instrumentation that comes with that space, and mentoring. Use of the other equipment is charged at rates the university approves. BioNEST-UDSC states plainly that it takes no equity in the companies it incubates.
Part-time support is for startups, companies and academics working somewhere else who only need the instruments. You book equipment time in advance by email. Non-incubatees are allowed on the instrumentation facility too, so you do not have to move in to use it.
The incubator's main area is bioactives: diagnostic molecules, therapeutic molecules, secondary metabolites, industrially important enzymes, bio-inoculants and biosimilars, for industrial and agricultural use. A second area is tools for molecular and cell biology, such as reagents for recombinant DNA work and for cell biology research. Work in other parts of life sciences is considered case by case, depending on what facilities it would need and whether mentoring is available for it.
Who can apply
Anyone with a registered company and an idea, prototype product or process that still needs development before it can be marketed can apply. The incubator is also open to individuals and academics funded through other programmes to test a technology, and names BIG grantees and privately funded individuals as examples. There is no requirement to be a student, alumnus or employee of the University of Delhi.
How to apply
You can write to the incubator's office inbox, bionest@south.du.ac.in, or fill in the application linked from every page of its website as "Apply for Incubation". Shortlisted applicants are asked to present their idea briefly to an Advisory Committee before selection, and anyone selected signs an agreement with the incubator at the start of incubation. Intake is rolling rather than cohort-based: a permanent notice runs on the website, and advertisements go out twice a year in a national newspaper.
Mentoring and startup services
The Coordinator and Nodal Officers are the first mentors. Beyond them, the incubator connects founders to University of Delhi laboratories working in process optimisation, animal cell culture, enzyme biology, the basic biology of infectious pathogens, cancer biology, genetics, bioinformatics, plant molecular and cell biology, plant virology and biochemistry. Where the expertise a founder needs is not held in the university, the incubator says it arranges it from scientists and professionals elsewhere in and around Delhi.
It also offers help with the paperwork of a young company — company registration, regulatory certification, fund-raising and intellectual property services — through service providers it works with, and says this liaison work carries no extra charge. Some of that section is written as intent rather than as a running service, so ask what is actually available now. It runs workshops on patent awareness to help founders protect their IP and file applications, holds periodic industry interaction sessions, and says it has connected with investors and venture capitalists who review incubatee ideas and business plans and give feedback.
Who it has backed
The incubator's own incubatee page names around twenty-five companies and individual innovators. They include Sodhani Biotech, working on natural dyes from microbial sources for textiles; Neat Meatt, on cell-based chicken; Caliche, capturing carbon dioxide from heavy industry using microorganisms; Tropical Animal Genetics, on bovine IVF for dairy; Absolute, on biofertilisers and biopesticides; Bionova Nexus and Aimatis Healthcare, on molecular diagnostic kits; Probiota Innovations, on stable probiotics; and Suspack Technologies, on food packaging from crop waste. The page does not give dates, so it cannot be split into current and past incubatees.
Events and jobs
BioNEST-UDSC runs free online sessions on intellectual property for students, researchers, academics and entrepreneurs, with e-certificates for participants; the sessions listed on its events page are past ones, so watch that page for the next. Open positions are posted under "New Hiring" in its main menu.
