Before you approach them

Nothing about the Ignition Grant is published — not the amount, not the term, not the eligibility rules, not whether the foundation takes equity. Ask the office for the current terms in writing before you build a plan around it. If a listing elsewhere quotes you a figure for this grant, it did not come from the foundation.

How to get in touch

There is no application form or portal on the site, and no intake calendar. The office inbox is itbioffice@nith.ac.in and the phone number is on the contact block of every page. Write to the office with a short note on what you are building, what stage it is at, and what you need from an incubator — bench space, machine time, mentoring, or a grant.

What to put in the first note

The foundation records a technology readiness level against every startup it has taken on, and its own material is written around idea incubation, prototype development and deployment. So describe where your product physically is: a sketch, a breadboard, a working prototype, a pilot with a customer. Name the lab you would use. A hardware, agriculture, sensing or clean-technology project fits the portfolio it has built so far.

Who this suits

• Founders who want workshop access in Himachal Pradesh rather than a metro incubator.
• Teams at prototype stage who need a 3D printer, a laser cutter or an electronics bench more than they need an office.
• Researchers and faculty at NIT Hamirpur looking to take work out of the lab.
• Anyone who only needs machine or room time: the labs and the conference room are rented by the hour to outside users, including people who are not incubatees, on a published rate card.

Watch for the events

The clearest route in is a competition. The 2025 summit ran an Ideathon and a 24-hour Productathon with incubation support for winners, and the 2026 summit ran a PitchX pitching session. One of the startups later listed as an incubatee, Emission Zero, won the 2025 Productathon. Watch the events page for the next edition and enter it.

Read the website carefully

Much of the site is unedited supplier template content, including a six-step intake process copied from a different incubator and dummy text under two programme tiles. The brochure, the registered-startups list, the facilities rate card and the events page are the parts written about this organisation. Do not treat the rest as a description of how this incubator works.

Uttishthati Foundation is the incubator at the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, in Himachal Pradesh. It is a Section 8 not-for-profit company, set up in 2023 to run an Inclusive Technology Business Incubator (i-TBI) funded by the Department of Science and Technology. "Uttishthati" is a Sanskrit word the foundation translates as to arise, to stand up, or to strive forward.

The foundation works on idea incubation, prototype development and deployment support. It helps innovators refine a concept, build a working prototype, and get a product to market, with mentoring and workshop access along the way. It is one of the few incubators of its kind in the western Himalayan region, and its own material describes its purpose as strengthening the regional entrepreneurial landscape.

What it offers

The foundation names three forms of support: pre-incubation support, an Ignition Grant, and mentorship. Its chairman's message adds administrative support, industry linkages and hands-on prototyping help.

Be aware that the Ignition Grant is named but never described. Nowhere on the foundation's website, brochure or event material does it publish how much the grant is worth, how long it runs, who may apply, how applicants are chosen, or whether the foundation takes equity in return. What is documented is that Ignition Grant certificates were presented to fourteen onboarded startups at the National Startup Summit on 9 March 2026. Treat the grant as real but undocumented, and ask the office directly for terms before you plan around it.

Who can apply

The foundation does not publish eligibility rules. Its chairman's message welcomes "budding entrepreneurs and startups from across India", and the 2026 summit set out to reach innovators from Tier-II and Tier-III regions, so nothing on record limits it to Himachal Pradesh founders or to NIT Hamirpur students. Equally, nothing on record confirms that outside founders are taken. The fourteen startups it lists include both individual innovators and registered companies and LLPs, at technology readiness levels three to seven, which suggests it works with teams from a rough idea through to a demonstrated product.

There is no application form or portal on the site. A "Get Started" button on the homepage leads to the general NIT Hamirpur institute page rather than to anything the incubator runs, and the pages for programmes and mentors are not built. The practical route in is the office inbox and phone number.

Facilities

The incubator has 7,118 sq ft inside the NIT Hamirpur campus. Within it are a FAS Lab for fabrication, holding a fused-deposition 3D printer and a CO2 laser cutter that handles acrylic, MDF, plywood, leather, paper, plastic and rubber; an ICT Lab with desktops, printers, scanners, smart boards, networking gear and licensed and open-source software; an e-conference and training room seating up to fifty, with a 4K interactive panel, a 360-degree conference camera and a podium sound system; a separate meeting and discussion room that works online or in person; office space; a visiting room; and staff rooms. The brochure also lists a design and development lab and an electronics and testing lab.

The labs and rooms are rented by the hour, and the foundation publishes a rate card with separate rates for internal users, students, researchers, NGOs and startups, and commercial users. That means the equipment is open to people who are not incubatees, which is unusual and useful if you only need machine time.

Separately, the Founder Director's message describes research laboratories, workshops, a library and software labs across the wider NIT Hamirpur campus. Those belong to the institute, not to the incubator's own floor space.

Track record

The foundation publishes a list of fourteen registered incubatees, each with the founder's name, the date the incubation agreement was signed and a technology readiness level. The agreements are dated between October 2025 and January 2026, so this is a young portfolio. The startups are Monitoring and Automation Solutions, Emission Zero, NetraAi, EthanolExpress / Agri Edge Innovations, Inventojoy, Spandhika Orthotics, Thermo-Mool, Bharat Flow Analytics, Motendra Technologies, lactopure, Farm Protection System, Starline AI, Anantrm Electric and Agrigrow. The mix leans towards hardware, sensing, agriculture and clean technology.

Events

The foundation runs an annual National Startup Summit at NIT Hamirpur. The 2025 edition, held with the institute's Team Technical Activities student body over three days in February and branded Innovision, ran an Ideathon for ideas and a 24-hour Productathon for prototypes, both with prizes and incubation support for winners. The 2026 edition, on 9 March, was a single day built around the Ignition Grant certificates and a PitchX pitching session, with thematic areas covering deep tech, women entrepreneurship, sustainability and agri-tech, spacetech and defence, and healthcare and biotech.

It also ran a one-day MVP workshop in November 2025 and a five-day Faculty Development Programme on research translation and startup initialization in July 2026, with speakers from IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Roorkee, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh and the Department of Science and Technology. A notifications page on the site is where careers and other updates would appear; it is empty at present.

Who runs it

The Principal Investigator and Founder Director is Dr. Pamita Awasthi, an Associate Professor at NIT Hamirpur. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma of the mechanical engineering department is Co-Principal Investigator and a Director. The Director of NIT Hamirpur, Prof. H.M. Suryawanshi, chairs the Board of Governors, which also includes a Director and Scientist from the Department of Science and Technology's NSTEDB division, faculty and former incubation leadership from IIT Mandi, and industry members from Ericsson and two manufacturing companies. Day-to-day the office is run by a Chief Executive Officer, an Incubation Manager, an Incubation Associate and support staff.

One caution about the website

A good part of the site is unedited supplier template content. The six-step "Getting Started" strip on the homepage was copied from another incubator and still names it, promising capital support over one to two years under a different organisation's name. Two programme tiles carry dummy Latin text, the testimonials and blog posts are fictional, and several nav links go nowhere. Read the brochure, the startup list and the events page, which are genuine, and ignore the rest.
