Schemes implemented by XCEED - XLRI Incubator
1 scheme — each groups the funding calls run under it.
Track record
What XCEED - XLRI Incubator reports about its portfolio.
These are XCEED's own counters and carry no date. Two other numbers on the same row belong to XLRI the business school rather than to the incubator: the talent pool figure is XLRI's MBA student body, offered to startups through Live Projects, and the years figure is the school's age. A logo strip headed "Startups Impacted" is uncaptioned, so we have not listed those names as incubated companies.
All figures self-reported — xceed.xlri.ac.in, as of 2025.
Programmes they run
Standing programmes at XCEED - XLRI Incubator, separate from the funding calls above.
XCEED runs no cohorts and publishes no deadlines. The incubation form is open all year and the same programme is offered on campus or virtually.
XCEED Incubation
IncubationXCEED's main programme, open to any founder with a registered company, running twelve to twenty-four months at XLRI Jamshedpur or Delhi-NCR, or virtually.
Best for: Founders anywhere in India with a registered company and something innovative and scalable
- Idea – Early revenue
- 12–24 months
- Hybrid
- Takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
XCEED incubates startups from any industry, at XLRI's Jamshedpur campus, its Delhi-NCR campus, or virtually if you cannot be on site. The term is twelve to twenty-four months and the governing council can shorten or extend it. There is no cohort calendar and no deadline: the application form is open all year.
What you get
- Office space on campus for the agreed period, with internet, computers, furniture, electricity, a meeting room with video conferencing, a pantry and access to the XLRI library
- Mentorship from XLRI faculty and alumni, plus the option to pick one industry mentor within six months of joining, who is paid in equity
- Connections to legal, accounting, audit, tax and HR service providers, paid for directly by the startup
- Support with patent filing and trademark registration, with XCEED stating it will not claim ownership of your intellectual property
- Introductions to angel investors and venture funds, and help building the pitch
- Help finding and applying to central and state government schemes
- Live Projects, where XLRI MBA students work on a business problem you submit
- The option to apply for seed money after three months, structured as a loan and subject to funds being available
Who can apply
- Anyone with a registered private limited company, LLP or partnership firm. No XLRI connection is required.
- Teams that have not incorporated yet may apply in the founders' names, but must register within three months of signing the incubation agreement, or six months for XLRI alumni
- The company must be under seven years old and within the stated turnover ceiling
- Proprietorships and public limited companies are not eligible
- The startup must not be formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business
- At least fifty-one per cent must be owned by Indian nationals, directly or indirectly
- Employed founders, including government staff, need a no-objection certificate from their employer
- Companies where a current XLRI student holds an executive position are not offered incubation, though companies promoted by students may apply
How selection works: the written application is screened against the published criteria, then reviewed by XCEED's selection committee with industry professionals. Shortlisted teams pitch to the committee, in person at the XCEED office or XLRI campus or by video, and take questions. A recommendation is followed by discussion of the incubation agreement terms, due diligence, admission and the equity allotment. XCEED states its decision is final and that it does not give reasons for a rejection.
How to apply: fill the application form on XCEED's incubation page and attach your business plan for the first twelve months, your certificate of incorporation, your memorandum and articles of association, and a note on the infrastructure and support you need. Questions go to xceed@xlri.ac.in.
Live Projects
PlatformSubmit a business problem and XLRI MBA students work on it, returning research, insights and recommendations.
Best for: Startups wanting outside analysis on one business problem
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details

Who can apply
- Startups with a specific business problem. XCEED does not state that you have to be incubated to use it.
How to apply: submit your requirement through the Live Projects call to action on XCEED's home page, or write to xceed@xlri.ac.in.
Incubation tracks
XCEED - XLRI Incubator runs a virtual track, so you can join without relocating.
Only the pre-incubation Incubatee Fellow track is restricted to people connected to XLRI. The main incubation and virtual incubation tracks are open to any founder.
| Track | Type | Space | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incubatee Fellow (pre-incubation)For XLRI students, staff, alumni and people associated through XLRI's extension of services who have an idea rather than a company. Runs a minimum of six months with a faculty advisor, extendable. At the end the committee decides whether to move the team into full incubation. Not open to founders with no XLRI connection. | Pre-incubation | — | — |
| IncubationThe main track, open to anyone with a registered company. Twelve to twenty-four months, shortenable or extendable by the governing council, with workspace at XLRI Jamshedpur or Delhi-NCR and five to ten per cent equity allotted to XCEED. | Resident incubation | — | — |

Campus access is issued to the founder; team members need written permission from XCEED's chief executive. The address cannot be used as your registered office.
Support services
Help offered alongside funding and space.
Most services are introductions and facilitation rather than work XCEED does in-house, and the policy is explicit that third-party professionals are paid for by the startup.

Help with the business plan, product and market research, product development, go-to-market strategy, revenue projection and commercialisation, plus mentorship from XLRI faculty, alumni and an industry panel.
Legal & finance
Connections to legal consultants and to company registration, bookkeeping, audit, tax filing, payroll and HR policy services. Third-party professionals are paid for directly by the startup.
IP & patents

How to apply to XCEED - XLRI Incubator
Which route fits you
- If you have already registered a private limited company, LLP or partnership firm, apply to the main incubation programme.
- If you are not based near Jamshedpur or Delhi-NCR, ask about virtual incubation. It carries an annual registration fee and works on a pay-per-use basis, but you get the same business and management support without relocating.
- If you are a current XLRI student, staff member or alum and still at the idea stage, the Incubatee Fellow pre-incubation route is the one open to you. Everyone else needs a company.
Check the eligibility list before you write anything
The published criteria rule out more applicants than the pitch does. Your company must be under seven years old, within the stated turnover ceiling, at least fifty-one per cent Indian-owned, and not formed by splitting or restructuring a business that already exists. Proprietorships and public limited companies are not accepted. If you have a job, line up a no-objection certificate from your employer early, because XCEED asks for it before offering incubation.
If you have not incorporated yet, you can still apply in the names of all the founders, but you have to register the company within three months of signing the incubation agreement. XLRI alumni get six months.
What to send
Applications go through the form on XCEED's incubation page. Alongside it you send your certificate of incorporation, your memorandum and articles of association, a note on the infrastructure and support you need, and a business plan covering the first twelve months. The plan is expected to cover the company and its founders, the problem and the product, your value proposition, the market and the competition, the revenue model, milestones and timelines, how you would scale, marketing, the core team, how the company is organised, the risks, and what funding you need.
What reviewers look for
- A real, compelling problem and a solution that is genuinely new rather than an incremental change
- A prototype or proof of concept, or a firm commitment to build one during the programme
- A model that scales and can stand on its own within about eighteen to twenty-four months
- A clear plan for your intellectual property and for taking the technology to market
- A team that can show it executes, with founders committed to this and not juggling similar commitments elsewhere
- Impact: business, social, environmental or economic. Social impact carries real weight here, since the policy sets aside a minimum share of each intake for social-impact ventures.
Applications that lack novelty, that have no route to commercialisation, or that come from a business split off from an existing one are stated grounds for rejection.
Know the terms before you pitch
Incubation is not free of strings. You allot five to ten per cent of your equity to XCEED, and a further slice to an industry mentor if you choose one. You keep your own intellectual property. You will be reviewed every three months against your business plan and will meet the XCEED chief executive monthly. Seed money is a loan you can only apply for after three months, and it is not guaranteed. Read the incubation policy on the XCEED site before you pitch so none of this is a surprise at the agreement stage.
Practical notes
- There is no deadline. The application form is live all year, so apply when your plan is ready rather than waiting for a cohort.
- Questions go to xceed@xlri.ac.in.
- Live Projects is separate from incubation. If what you want is XLRI MBA students working on one business problem, submit that requirement instead of applying for a place.
About XCEED - XLRI Incubator
XCEED is the incubator of XLRI - Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Its full name is the XLRI Council for Entrepreneurship Excellence and Development, and its own incubation policy describes it as a Section 8 company set up to support entrepreneurs. It runs on XLRI's student Entrepreneurship Cell, which is why the site brands the pairing as ECELL x XCEED, and it works out of XLRI's Jamshedpur campus with a second campus at XLRI Delhi-NCR.
You do not need any connection to XLRI to apply. The policy is explicit that anyone who has incorporated a company may apply for incubation. Only the pre-incubation track, called Incubatee Fellow, is limited to XLRI students, staff and alumni.
How incubation works
There are three ways in. Incubatee Fellow is pre-incubation for an XLRI student, staff member or alum with an idea; it runs at least six months with a faculty advisor, after which the committee decides whether to move the team into full incubation. Incubation proper is for a founder who has already registered a private limited company, LLP or partnership firm, and runs twelve to twenty-four months, which the governing council can shorten or extend. Virtual incubation gives the same business and management support to founders who are not based at Jamshedpur or Delhi-NCR, on a pay-per-use basis with an annual registration fee.
Incubated startups allot five to ten per cent of their equity to XCEED, with the exact share decided case by case. A startup may also pick one industry mentor from XCEED's panel within six months of joining, and that mentor is paid in equity too. Seed money is possible but not promised: it is structured as a loan rather than a grant, you can only apply for it three months after joining, it depends on funds being available, and the policy says plainly that being selected for incubation does not entitle you to it.
Who can apply
The stated bar is an innovative product, process or service with a scalable model and a committed team. A prototype or proof of concept is preferred but a working product is not required, and the team's own material says startups from every industry are welcome. At least thirty per cent of each selected intake is meant to be social-impact ventures.
The written criteria are specific. The company must not be more than seven years old and must stay under the turnover ceiling set in the policy. Proprietorships and public limited companies are not eligible. The startup must not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business. At least fifty-one per cent must be owned by Indian nationals, directly or indirectly. If you are employed elsewhere, including in government, you need a no-objection certificate from your employer. Teams that have not yet incorporated may apply, but must register within three months of signing the incubation agreement, or six months if they are XLRI alumni. Companies where a current XLRI student holds an executive position are not offered incubation, though companies promoted by students may apply.
What you get
Admitted startups get office space on the XLRI campus for the agreed period, with wired and wireless internet, computers, furniture, electricity, a meeting room with video conferencing, a pantry and access to the XLRI library. Campus access is issued to the founder; team members need written permission from XCEED's chief executive. Two rules catch people out: you cannot use the XCEED address as your registered office, and routine sales and marketing cannot be run from the premises.
Beyond space, XCEED connects startups to mentors from XLRI's faculty, its alumni and its industry panel, and to legal, accounting, audit, tax and HR service providers, which the startup pays for directly. It supports patent and trademark work while stating clearly that it does not claim ownership of a startup's intellectual property. It makes introductions to angel investors and venture funds and helps build the pitch, while saying it cannot promise anyone will invest. It also helps identify central and state government schemes a startup qualifies for and complete the paperwork.
A separate offering, Live Projects, lets a startup submit a business problem for XLRI MBA students to work on and come back with research and recommendations.
How selection works
Applications are online only. A first screen checks the written application against the published criteria, then XCEED's selection committee, made up of council nominees and industry professionals, reviews what is left. Shortlisted teams pitch in person at the XCEED office or the XLRI campus, or by video, and take questions. After that comes a recommendation, a discussion of the incubation agreement terms, due diligence, and admission. XCEED states that its decision is final and that it will not give reasons for a rejection.
Once in, an internal review committee checks progress against the business plan every three months, and the chief executive or incubation manager meets each company's chief executive at least monthly. Incubation ends on set triggers as well as at the end of the term, including crossing the stated turnover level, raising a substantial round, or passing twenty employees.
Who runs it
Dr. Sunil Kumar Sarangi is chief executive of XCEED. The incubation policy, reviewed in August 2025, also names Fr. Jerome Cutinho as director, Fr. S. George and Fr. Donald D'Silva as project coordinators, and Amit Marandi as incubation manager. A governing council made up of the board, the coordinators, the chief executive, an executive committee of XLRI professors and the incubation manager approves the policy and the selection decisions.
