Is FSSAI registration mandatory for home food businesses?

Yes. Any food business — including home bakers, tiffin services, pickle makers, and jam producers selling online — must have at least a Basic FSSAI Registration (₹100/year government fee) if annual turnover is under ₹12 lakh.

What is the difference between FSSAI Registration and FSSAI Licence?

Basic Registration is for small businesses with turnover up to ₹12 lakh/year. A State Licence is for businesses with turnover ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore. A Central Licence is for large businesses, importers, and multi-state operators.

Can I sell food on Amazon or Swiggy without FSSAI?

No. Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, Swiggy, Zomato, and all major food platforms require a valid FSSAI number for onboarding. Your seller account will be suspended or rejected without it.

How long is an FSSAI licence valid?
