How It Works

   Identify applicable IS standard

   We identify the Indian Standards (IS number) applicable to your product and check whether BIS certification is mandatory or voluntary for your category.

2. 2

   Factory readiness

   We assess the factory against BIS inspection requirements — QC equipment, process controls, and documentation needed before applying.

3. 3

   BIS application

   The application is filed with the relevant BIS office along with a factory inspection fee.

4. 4

   BIS inspection and testing

   BIS conducts a factory inspection. Product samples are taken and tested at a BIS-recognised laboratory against the applicable IS.

5. 5

   Licence grant

   On satisfactory inspection and test results, BIS issues the Licence to use the ISI Mark for the specific product and standard.
