Government of India
Central ministry driving India's food-processing sector via PMFME and PLISFPI schemes.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), established in 1988, is the Government of India's nodal ministry for developing the food-processing sector — a major employment and value-addition engine linking agriculture to industry and consumers. Headquartered in New Delhi, MoFPI formulates policy and runs a suite of capital-subsidy and incentive schemes for entrepreneurs, FPOs, SHGs and enterprises.
Flagship schemes.
Support for startups. MoFPI backs food-tech and processing startups through grant-in-aid, capital subsidies and incubation support via designated centres and the NIFTEM institutes. Schemes are largely non-dilutive and credit-linked.
Eligibility. Individual entrepreneurs, micro-enterprises, FPOs, cooperatives, SHGs and companies processing agricultural, horticultural, dairy, marine and allied produce are eligible, with criteria varying per scheme.
Who should apply. Food-processing, agritech and packaged-food founders seeking capital subsidy, infrastructure support or production-linked incentives should review MoFPI's open schemes at mofpi.gov.in.
