Programmes they run

Standing programmes at Allenhouse Startup and Incubation Foundation (ASIF), separate from the funding calls above.

Three routes, and only one of them is internal. Pre-incubation is reserved for the college's own students, staff and alumni. Incubation and virtual incubation are written for incorporated companies from anywhere, and virtual incubation is defined by the applicant being based away from the campus. No intake dates or deadlines are published for any of them.

Pre-incubation

Incubation

A free, up-to-six-month runway for Allenhouse students, staff and alumni taking an idea towards a prototype.

Best for: Allenhouse students, staff, alumni and people connected through the college's extension services

  • Idea – Prototype
  • Up to 6 months, extendable by 2 months at ASIF's discretion
  • In person
  • Free, no equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The internal route, and the only free one. It is for people with an idea rather than a registered company, and it is limited to the college's own community.

What you get

  • A co-working desk rather than a private office.
  • A faculty advisor from the college group as your mentor on technology questions, which is required at this stage.
  • Access to the host institutes' laboratories and library for building and testing a prototype.
  • Shared meeting and conference facilities, video conferencing, printing and a cafeteria.
  • Entrepreneurship training and workshops.

Who can apply

  • Students, staff, alumni, and people affiliated through the college's extension services. Nobody else.
  • No incorporation is needed at this stage.

How selection works: you submit the pre-incubation form with the mandatory details, and ASIF puts the proposal to its selection committee, which gives a view on whether the idea genuinely needs pre-incubation support.

How to apply: fill in the application form printed as an annexure at the back of the incubation policy, which the institute publishes on its innovation and incubation page, and send it with the supporting documents to the incubation coordinator at innovationhub@allenhouse.ac.in.

Incubation

Incubation

Resident incubation on the Kanpur campus for incorporated startups, running up to two years, charged as a monthly fee plus equity.

Best for: Incorporated startups under ten years old, from anywhere, that want space on the Kanpur campus

  • Prototype – Growth
  • Up to 2 years, with up to two further 6-month extensions at ASIF's discretion
  • In person
  • Paid, takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The main programme, and the one open to founders with no Allenhouse connection. It expects a company, or a team ready to become one quickly, and it runs on campus.

What you get

  • Office space allotted individually, with a computer on a rental basis, an internet connection and standard furniture.
  • Shared meeting and conference rooms with projection equipment, tele and video conferencing, printing, a cafeteria and a lounge.
  • Access to the host institutes' laboratories and library, including for developing and testing prototypes.
  • Mentors matched to your sector, plus a faculty advisor on technology questions on request.
  • Pitch practice and introductions to angel investors and venture capital firms.
  • Training on business planning, marketing, diligence, funding and scale-up, and discounts on the college's minor certification courses in entrepreneurship.
  • Referrals to legal, accounting and intellectual property professionals. Their own fees are paid by you.
  • Help hiring interns and staff from the college group's graduates, and an MBA student assigned for management support if you want one.
  • The possibility of seed funding or a loan, which you can apply for three months after admission. It depends on ASIF holding funds for the purpose and is never automatic.

Who can apply

  • Anyone wanting incubation who registers a company under the Indian Companies Act. Founding teams that have not incorporated yet may apply in all the founders' names and must incorporate within two months of signing the incubation agreement.
  • A private limited company is the safe form. The policy requires a private or public limited company in one sentence and then excludes public limited companies; sole proprietorships are excluded outright.
  • The company must be under ten years old, under a stated turnover ceiling, and at least fifty-one percent owned by Indian nationals.
  • It must not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business, and it must be working on an innovative product, process or service with a scalable model.
  • One caveat to check first: the admission section also asks for a recommendation from the relevant head of department with the director's approval, which an outside founder cannot obtain. The eligibility rules plainly invite outside companies, so ask the coordinator how an unaffiliated company applies before you start.

How selection works: you submit the form with a business plan, certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, your infrastructure requirements and a justification for choosing ASIF. An internal committee screens it, checking the information, your ownership of any intellectual property and the company's legal status. A selection committee of industry professionals, venture capitalists, academics and alumni entrepreneurs then evaluates the proposal on the business model, level of innovation, market size, feasibility, scaling potential, team, intellectual property, five-year financial projections, funding need, time to market and break-even period. You are inducted once you sign the incubation agreement. ASIF says it will not sign a non-disclosure agreement during this process, and that it looks for founders who will commit full time with no other concurrent work.

How to apply: the policy points to an online form, but none is published. Use the application form printed as an annexure at the back of the incubation policy on the institute's innovation and incubation page, and contact the incubation coordinator at innovationhub@allenhouse.ac.in.

Full Incubation guide

The same two-year incubation for companies based away from the Kanpur campus, without the office space and at a lower monthly fee.

Best for: Incorporated startups based away from Kanpur that want mentoring and investor access without a desk

  • Prototype – Growth
  • Up to 2 years, with up to two further 6-month extensions at ASIF's discretion
  • Online
  • Paid, takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

Written specifically for companies located outside the campus. Everything about eligibility, selection and term is the same as resident incubation; what changes is that no office infrastructure is allotted, and the monthly fee is lower.

What you get

  • Mentors matched to your sector, and a faculty advisor on technology questions on request.
  • Pitch practice and introductions to angel investors and venture capital firms.
  • Training on business planning, marketing, diligence, funding and scale-up.
  • Referrals to legal, accounting and intellectual property professionals, whose own fees you pay.
  • Hiring access to the college group's graduates.
  • The same conditional route to seed funding or a loan, three months after admission.
  • No office space, computer or furniture. Those are explicitly excluded for virtually incubated startups.

Who can apply

  • Companies based away from the Allenhouse campus, on the same terms as resident incubation.
  • Incorporated, or incorporating within two months of signing the incubation agreement; under ten years old; under a stated turnover ceiling; at least fifty-one percent Indian-owned; not formed by splitting up an existing business.

How selection works: identical to resident incubation. Submission and preliminary screening, then evaluation of the business proposal by the selection committee, then induction on signing the incubation agreement.

How to apply: use the application form printed as an annexure at the back of the incubation policy on the institute's innovation and incubation page, and contact the incubation coordinator at innovationhub@allenhouse.ac.in.

Incubation tracks

Allenhouse Startup and Incubation Foundation (ASIF) runs a virtual track, so you can join without relocating.

Term lengths and extensions are taken from the incubation policy ASIF published in 2024. Extensions are discretionary in every case.

TrackTypeSpaceIncludes
Pre-incubationFree, and limited to the college's own students, staff, alumni and extension-service affiliates. A two-month extension is possible at ASIF's discretion.Pre-incubation—co-working desk, faculty technology advisor, lab and library access, entrepreneurship training
IncubationOpen to incorporated startups. Up to two further six-month extensions at ASIF's discretion. Charged as a monthly service fee, and ASIF takes equity.Resident incubation—office space, computer on rental, internet, furniture, shared meeting and conference rooms, lab and library access
Virtual IncubationFor companies located away from the campus. Same terms and term length as resident incubation, but no office infrastructure and a lower monthly fee.Virtual incubation—mentoring, investor connect, entrepreneurship training, legal and IP referrals

Labs & facilities

Equipment and space on campus.

The laboratory and library access belongs to the host college group and is granted under its rules. Only the incubation centre and the co-working space are described as the incubator's own.

Incubation centre

The incubation policy describes a ten thousand square foot facility. That figure is a floor area, is the incubator's own claim, and has not been updated since the 2024 policy was published.

Co-working space

Allotted to pre-incubatees in place of a private office. Incubated companies get their own office space instead.

Institute laboratories for prototyping and testing

Access via Allenhouse Group of Institutions

Access is granted under the college group's own rules rather than being the incubator's own equipment.

Common lab

Access via Allenhouse Group of Institutions

Listed on the institute's entrepreneurship page alongside innovation labs. No equipment is named, so treat it as general shared lab access rather than a specific capability.

Support services

Help offered alongside funding and space.

Advisory, legal and intellectual property help is arranged through referrals. The introduction is included; the professional's fee is not.

IP & patents

Referrals to intellectual property professionals, and an IP declaration at admission. Incubatees pay the professional's own fees.

Legal & finance

Legal advisory through service partners, plus accounting and finance professionals engaged part-time. Their fees are paid directly by the incubatee.

Business advisory

Help building an investible business plan and financial planning advice, plus mentors matched to your sector and pitch practice with angel investors and venture capital firms.

Technology transfer

Incubatees may licence intellectual property developed by the college group under a technology commercialisation agreement, on terms the institute sets case by case.

How to apply to Allenhouse Startup and Incubation Foundation (ASIF)

Work out which route you actually qualify for

ASIF runs three routes and they are not interchangeable. Pre-incubation is reserved for Allenhouse students, staff, alumni and people connected through the college's extension services, and it is the only free one. If you have no connection to the college, you are applying to incubation or to virtual incubation, both of which expect a company rather than an idea.

Pick between the two on where you are based. Virtual incubation exists specifically for companies located away from the campus, and it is the cheaper of the two, but it comes without office space. If you want the desk, the lab access and the day-to-day contact, apply for resident incubation.

Get the company right before you apply

Most of the eligibility rules are about the legal entity, not the idea.

  • Be incorporated, or be ready to incorporate within two months of signing the incubation agreement. A founding team that has not registered yet can apply in the names of all the founders.
  • A private limited company is the safe form. The policy is self-contradictory about public limited companies, requiring one in one sentence and excluding it in the next. Sole proprietorships are excluded outright.
  • The company must be less than ten years old and under a stated turnover ceiling.
  • It must not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing a business that already exists.
  • At least fifty-one percent of it must be owned by Indian nationals.

Ask one question before you start writing

The admission section of the policy says applications are processed once the applicant has a recommendation from the relevant head of department, forwarded with the director's approval. That is impossible for an outside founder, and it sits awkwardly beside eligibility rules that plainly invite outside companies and a whole track defined by the applicant being off campus. Email the incubation coordinator and ask how an unaffiliated company applies before you assemble the pack. It is a short question and it saves a wasted week.

Assemble the pack the policy asks for

  • Your business plan.
  • Certificate of incorporation, and the memorandum and articles of association.
  • A statement of the infrastructure you need.
  • A written justification for why ASIF specifically, rather than any incubator.
  • The application form, which is the annexure printed at the back of the incubation policy on the institute's innovation and incubation page.

Incomplete forms are not screened, so check it through before sending.

What the reviewers look for

Screening comes first and is administrative: is the information authentic, do you own the intellectual property you claim, is the company's legal status what you said it was. Only then does the selection committee read the proposal.

That committee is described as industry professionals, venture capitalists, academics and alumni entrepreneurs, and the criteria it works to are listed in the policy. It weighs the technology and how innovative it is, the size of the market and the timing, the profile of the founding team, any intellectual property and the potential to create more, five-year projections for profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow, how much money you need and whether you can realistically raise it, time to market, break-even period and scalability.

Two things are stated as preferences rather than rules and are worth meeting anyway: a market-ready prototype or proof of concept, and a clear plan for protecting and commercialising your intellectual property. ASIF also says it looks for startups that can become self-sustaining within about eighteen to twenty-four months, so write your plan to that horizon.

Know what you are agreeing to

  • Selection expects a full-time commitment with no other concurrent work during the programme.
  • ASIF takes equity as well as a monthly service fee, and the stake is subject to its governing council's approval.
  • Residency is capped at two years, with extensions only at ASIF's discretion.
  • Incubatees file quarterly updates and an annual audited statement, and there is a compliance warning ladder with real consequences.
  • ASIF says it will not sign a non-disclosure agreement during the application process, so think about what you put in the first submission.
  • Seed funding is possible but not promised. It depends on ASIF holding funds, applies only to registered companies, and cannot even be applied for until three months after you are admitted.

About Allenhouse Startup and Incubation Foundation (ASIF)

Allenhouse Startup and Incubation Foundation, known as ASIF, is a not-for-profit incubator in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is a Section 8 company, incorporated in its own right in January 2024, and it is hosted by Allenhouse Group of Institutions, the Kanpur college group made up of Allenhouse Institute of Technology, Allenhouse Institute of Management and Allenhouse Business School. It sits on the group's campus at Rooma, on Kulgaon Road.

ASIF started in January 2023 as the campus startup cell, running events and putting a small support fund behind student innovations. A year later it was registered as a separate legal entity, and it published an incubation policy that sets out who it takes, on what terms, and for how long.

How the programmes work

There are three routes in, and they are meant for different people.

Pre-incubation is the internal one. It runs for up to six months, with a possible two-month extension if the work is going well, and it is for people who have an idea rather than a company. Pre-incubatees get a co-working desk rather than a private office, and they must take a faculty advisor from the college group as their mentor on technology questions.

Incubation is the resident programme for companies. It runs for up to two years, and ASIF can grant up to two further extensions of six months each at its own discretion. An incubated company is allotted its own office space, one computer on a rental basis, an internet connection and standard furniture.

Virtual incubation is the same programme for companies that are not based on the campus. It carries the same two-year window and the same services, minus the office infrastructure, which the policy says does not apply to virtually incubated startups.

Across the incubation tracks, ASIF says it connects companies to sector mentors, arranges pitch practice and introductions to angel investors and venture capital firms, runs training on business planning, marketing, diligence, funding and scale-up, and refers companies to legal, accounting and intellectual property professionals. Any fees those professionals charge are paid by the company directly. It also offers a route into hiring from the college group's graduates. ASIF says it may offer seed funding or a loan where it holds funds for the purpose, that only registered companies qualify, and that an application can be made three months after admission. It states plainly that admission does not guarantee this.

Who can apply

This is the part worth reading closely, because the three routes are not equally open.

Pre-incubation is limited. The policy says the people eligible for it are students, staff, alumni, or those affiliated through extension services of the college. If you have no Allenhouse connection, this route is not for you.

Incubation and virtual incubation are written as open. The policy says anyone wanting to access incubation facilities must register as a company under the Indian Companies Act and submit an application in the prescribed format. Teams that have not incorporated yet may apply in the names of all the founders, and must then incorporate within two months of signing the incubation agreement. The company must be under ten years old, must not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business, must be working on an innovative product, process or service with a scalable model, and must be at least fifty-one percent owned by Indian nationals. There is a turnover ceiling, and crossing it later is also one of the grounds on which a company is asked to leave. Sole proprietorships are excluded.

One caution. The same document, in its section on admission procedure, adds that applications are processed once the applicant has a recommendation from the relevant head of department forwarded with the director's approval. An outside founder has no head of department. The eligibility and scope sections clearly contemplate outside companies, and virtual incubation is defined by the applicant being off campus, so the likeliest reading is that this sentence was written for the student case and never rewritten. It is not resolved on the page, so confirm it before you spend time on an application. The policy also states both that applicants must have incorporated a private or public limited company and, a few lines later, that public limited companies are not eligible. A private limited company is the safe reading.

How selection works

ASIF describes three steps. First a submission with the business plan, certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, a statement of what infrastructure you need, and a justification for choosing ASIF, followed by preliminary screening by an internal committee that checks the information, the ownership of any intellectual property and the legal status of the company. Then a selection committee, described as industry professionals, venture capitalists, academics and alumni entrepreneurs, evaluates the business proposal on the business model, level of innovation, market size, feasibility, scaling potential, team, intellectual property, five-year financial projections, time to market and break-even period. Finally the company signs an incubation agreement and is inducted.

ASIF asks for a full-time commitment with no other concurrent work, expects a selected startup to stand on its own within eighteen to twenty-four months, and says it will not sign non-disclosure agreements during the application process.

What it costs

Pre-incubation is free. Incubation and virtual incubation are charged as a monthly service fee per pair of desks, with a lower rate for women entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs with disabilities, and a lower rate again for virtual incubation. ASIF also takes an equity stake, subject to its governing council's approval, and says the fee may be reduced or waived depending on the applicant.

Facilities

The incubation centre is described in the policy as a ten thousand square foot facility. Shared resources include a meeting and conference room with projection equipment, tele and video conferencing, a multi-function printer, a projector, a cafeteria and a lounge. Incubatees are also given access to the host institutes' laboratories and library under the college group's own rules, including for developing and testing prototypes.

Who runs it

The one person named publicly is Amit Kumar Sinha, an assistant professor at Allenhouse Institute of Technology, who is listed as incubation coordinator and is the published point of contact. The policy describes a governing council, an advisory committee, a selection committee, an internal screening committee and an internal review committee, but names no members of any of them. The wider group is chaired by Mukhtarul Amin and sits under the Superhouse Education Foundation.

Events

ASIF has co-hosted campus events with the institute's Innovation Council, including IDEATE in February 2025, a pitching event, and ANVESHAN, a National Science Day programme. Both were campus events rather than open calls.

How to apply

There is no live online application form, despite the policy pointing applicants to one. The application form itself is printed as an annexure at the back of the incubation policy, which the institute publishes on its innovation and incubation page. Fill that in, gather the supporting documents, and contact the incubation coordinator.
