About DSIR

The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Established through a Presidential Notification on January 4, 1985, DSIR is dedicated to promoting innovation, industrial R&D, and technology development across the country.

DSIR has a mandate to carry out activities relating to indigenous technology promotion, development, utilization, and transfer. It plays a strategic role in enabling the industrial sector, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to develop and adopt globally competitive technologies with high commercial potential. The department bridges the gap between science and industry by fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions.

DSIR also recognizes Scientific and Industrial Research Organizations (SIROs), providing them with fiscal benefits and support for in-house R&D activities. The department is headquartered at Technology Bhawan, New Delhi.
