Almost everything KIIT-TBI offers a founder is a government scheme it has been appointed to deliver — from DST, MeitY, BIRAC, Startup India and the Ministry of Defence. Each runs on its own call window rather than a shared intake, so check the individual programme page before building an application. Incubation itself is separate and always open.

This is the general front door and it has no deadline — the form on the Incubate page stays open. You choose one of four options: physical incubation with or without funding assistance, or virtual incubation with or without funding assistance. Funding assistance is screened separately after the form, so choosing it is a request, not an entitlement.

How to apply: Fill the form on the Incubate page. It asks for founder details including Aadhaar and PAN, your address and qualification, and written answers on your product, the problem, what is unique about your solution, your competitors, your revenue and revenue model, market size and team. You also upload a pitch deck and a CV, each under 15 MB.
Note on cost: KIIT-TBI says it sends details of the incubation fee after you submit the form. Ask for the fee schedule before you commit.
Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS)
Grant schemeKIIT-TBI is a disbursing incubator for the national seed fund, which accepts applications all year through the Startup India portal.

The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme supports proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry and commercialisation. KIIT-TBI is one of the incubators that screens and disburses it. Applications are open all year on the national portal rather than in cohorts.
What you get
- Seed funding as a grant and as debt or a convertible debenture
- Twelve months for the grant portion; the debt portion carries a three-year moratorium
- Mentoring and network access through the incubator
Who can apply
- A DPIIT-recognised startup incorporated no more than two years ago at the time of applying
- A business idea for a product or service with market fit, viable commercialisation and room to scale
- Technology at the core of the product, service, business model, distribution model or method
- Any sector, with preference for social impact, waste and water management, financial inclusion, education, agriculture, food processing, biotechnology, healthcare, energy, mobility, defence, space, railways, oil and gas and textiles
How selection works: An eligibility check in the first fifteen days, preliminary screening between fifteen and thirty days, then the Incubator Seed Management Committee round between thirty and forty-five days. The committee scores need, feasibility, potential impact, novelty, team, fund utilisation plan and the presentation itself.
How to apply: Apply on the Startup India Seed Fund portal and name KIIT-TBI as one of up to three incubator preferences. Get DPIIT recognition first — it is a hard gate.

How to apply to KIIT-TBI
Choosing the right route
KIIT-TBI has two separate front doors and picking the wrong one wastes weeks.
- Incubation is the always-open form on the Incubate page. It gets you space or a virtual seat, mentoring and facility access — and it is a paid service, so ask for the fee schedule before you commit.
- Funded schemes are individual government calls with their own windows and their own eligibility. You do not reach them through the incubation form.
Work out which scheme fits before you apply anywhere. If you are still at an idea with no prototype, look at NIDHI PRAYAS, TIDE 2.0 or GENESIS EiR. If you are a life science team, the BIRAC ladder — Biotechnology Ignition Grant first, then SEED, then LEAP — is the one built for you. If you already have market validation and want investor access, the NIDHI Accelerator and SAMRIDH are the growth-stage doors. If you are already incubated at KIIT-TBI with a product ready to sell, NIDHI Seed Support is the next step.
Get the paperwork ready first
- The incubation form only accepts a private limited company or an LLP. If you are not incorporated yet, that is the first job.
- Several schemes require DPIIT recognition — the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme and GENESIS EiR both do. Recognition takes time, so start it before a call opens.
- The incubation form asks for Aadhaar and PAN numbers and uploads of your pitch deck and CV, each under 15 MB.
- DST's PRAYAS and EIR programmes are gated on your degree: a basic degree or diploma in science or engineering, with EIR wanting four years of full-time study or a three-year course plus two years of work after it.
How selection works
The DST and MeitY calls all run the same four steps: the call opens for roughly a month, a shortlist is announced, shortlisted applicants present to a selection committee, and a final list follows. GENESIS EiR adds due diligence, an agreement signing and an assigned anchor mentor at the end, and its window is shorter — around fifteen days.
The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme runs on published timings you can plan against: an eligibility check in the first fifteen days, preliminary screening between fifteen and thirty days, and the Incubator Seed Management Committee round between thirty and forty-five days.
BIRAC's Biotechnology Ignition Grant is the longest process: an eligibility check by the partner incubator, an online review scored by subject experts, a one-to-one presentation before a thematic technical expert panel, and then an expert selection committee.
What reviewers look for
The seed fund committee publishes its own scoring criteria, and they are a fair guide to what any of these panels will press on: whether the idea is needed and what market gap it fills, whether the technical claims are feasible and the proof-of-concept method is sound, the potential impact on the customer group and any national importance, novelty and the IP behind it, the strength of the team on both technical and business sides, and a credible plan for spending the money.
For the biotech funds, add evidence. SEED and LEAP both want a proof of concept already achieved, a previous round already raised, and a written go-to-market plan showing revenue within two years. LEAP additionally wants the technology at readiness level 7 or above, and prefers ventures already earning.
Practical notes
- Programme pages go stale between calls. Several showed "Call Closed" when this page was last checked, so confirm the current window before you build an application.
- Geography matters for some schemes. GENESIS EiR only takes founders from Tier II and Tier III cities, BIG North East is for the North East, and Boeing BUILD lists thirteen focus states across eastern and north-eastern India.
- Ask about the incubation fee, whether you need to be physically resident, and how facility access is charged, before signing anything.

KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI) is a non-profit incubator set up in 2009 as a Section 8 company at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Stages run from idea to growth. The incubation application form asks founders to place themselves at idea stage with no working product, seed stage at problem-solution fit, early stage at product-market fit, or growth stage with traction. Individual programmes then narrow that: NIDHI PRAYAS and the TIDE 2.0 schemes are for taking an idea to a prototype, while the NIDHI Accelerator and SAMRIDH are for startups that have already validated a market.
Who can apply
The general incubation form is open to outside founders, not only KIIT students, but it accepts only a startup registered as a private limited company or an LLP. It asks for founder identity details including Aadhaar and PAN, address and qualification, an uploaded pitch deck and CV, and written answers on the product, the problem, the unique advantage, competitors, revenue, market size and team. Applicants choose physical or virtual incubation, with or without funding assistance, and state the office space they need if they want a desk on campus. An incubation fee applies and the details are sent after the form is submitted, so treat incubation here as a paid service and ask for the fee schedule early.
The funded schemes each carry their own gate, and they are stricter. The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme needs a DPIIT-recognised startup incorporated no more than two years ago. NIDHI PRAYAS and NIDHI EIR are open to Indian citizens with a science or engineering degree. GENESIS EiR is narrower still: Indian citizens from Tier II and Tier III cities only, either full-time students or founders of DPIIT-registered startups under two years old, physically incubated at the centre and not previously supported under any MeitY scheme. NIDHI Seed Support needs a company already incubated at the TBI for at least three months with a product ready for market. The BIRAC SEED and LEAP funds want life science companies two to seven years old that have already raised a round.
Programmes
Most of what KIIT-TBI offers founders is a government scheme it has been appointed to run. From DST: NIDHI PRAYAS for idea-to-prototype grants, NIDHI EIR as a twelve-month fellowship, a six-month NIDHI Accelerator ending in a Demo Day, and the NIDHI Seed Support System for incubated companies ready to commercialise. From MeitY: the TIDE 2.0 grant and TIDE 2.0 EIR, the six-month SAMRIDH accelerator, and the GENESIS Entrepreneur-in-Residence programme for Tier II and Tier III cities. From BIRAC: the Biotechnology Ignition Grant, the BIG North East special call, the SEED and LEAP investment funds, and the eighteen-month Social Innovation Immersion Program under SPARSH. It is also a disbursing incubator for the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, an iDEX partner incubator for defence innovation, and Boeing's implementation partner for the BUILD programme.
Calls open and close. At the time this page was checked the BIRAC Biotechnology Ignition Grant showed Call-25 open and most of the DST and MeitY calls showed as closed between intakes, so the programme entries below say where each one stood.
Facilities
KIIT-TBI states a built-up area of 130,000 sq. ft, of which 40,000 sq. ft is laboratory space. The labs page lists an analytical testing facility described as licensed and commercial grade, a cell culture facility, a bioprocess lab and a shared central instrumentation facility; its milestone timeline records NABL certification for the analytical testing facility. The facilities gallery also shows a fabrication lab, a testing lab, a co-working space, conference and meeting rooms, a cafeteria and incubatee offices. Grantees on the DST programmes get access to the digital fabrication lab and co-working space. A Centre of Excellence for Molecular Diagnostics supported by Thermo Fisher Scientific was added in 2024-25.
Scale
The numbers KIIT-TBI publishes are its own and its pages do not agree with each other, so read them as orders of magnitude rather than audited totals. Its homepage counter says 530+ startups incubated while its overview page says over 482; the homepage says 250+ products commercialised against 153 on the overview page; 12,000+ direct jobs against over 10,000 technical jobs; 300+ patents against 210+ IPs. Both pages agree it has supported more than 200 women-led startups and nurtured 20 to 25 rural manufacturing clusters across eastern and north-eastern India.
Its awards are easier to pin down: the National Award for Technology Business Incubator of the Year 2017 from DST, Centre of Excellence in Incubation and Entrepreneurship status from DST in 2020, the National IPR Award 2021-22 for Best Incubator for nurturing IP, the number one private-sector bioincubator ranking from BioSpectrum in 2019 and 2020, and Incubator of the Year 2023 from the Asian Association of Business Incubation in Bangkok.
