About Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India, drives defence innovation through the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework, launched in 2018 under the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO). iDEX creates an ecosystem to foster innovation in defence and aerospace by engaging MSMEs, startups, individual innovators, R&D institutes, and academia.

Key grant programmes include SPARK (Support for Prototype and Research Kickstart) offering up to INR 1.5 crore for prototype development, iDEX Prime providing up to INR 10 crore for higher TRL innovations, and ADITI (Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX) offering up to INR 25 crore for critical defence technologies. The government has approved a budgetary support of INR 498.78 crore for the scheme over five years, targeting 300 startups and 20 partner incubators.
