About this competition
The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) is a competition run by the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) for university and college students aged 18 to 30 who already own and run a business. Students compete in local and national rounds, and the top student entrepreneurs reach the Global Finals, where US$100,000 (about ₹95 lakh) in cash is at stake and first place wins US$50,000 (about ₹47.5 lakh). The competition season runs from August 2026 through 2027, and deadlines differ by location.
This is a students-only competition. You must be enrolled at a university or college for the current academic year, and you must be the owner, founder or controlling shareholder of a business that has been running for at least six months. A founder who is not studying cannot enter.
What the program offers
At the Global Finals, first place receives US$50,000 (about ₹47.5 lakh), second US$25,000 and third US$15,000. Prizes in local rounds are a mix of cash and business services and vary by location. EO says the total value of prizes, gifts and services for students at the Global Finals is nearly half a million dollars. The source describes no equity being taken.
Other benefits are feedback and mentorship from successful entrepreneurs, pitch training through live questioning by judges, networking with student entrepreneurs and EO members, and local and national media exposure, including the Start it Up docuseries. Local winners get a fully sponsored trip to the regional rounds, according to the competition's earlier description.
Who can apply
Eligibility is at the discretion of the GSEA Management Team. You need to meet all of these. You are enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student for the current academic year at the time of applying, and part-time enrolment is fine. You are the owner, founder or controlling shareholder, and only one owner or co-founder can represent a company. The business has run for at least six consecutive months before you apply, and it has generated US$500 or received US$1,000 in investment. You are aged 18 to 30, and you have not been a final-round competitor at a previous Global Finals.
Graduate students qualify only if they have stayed continuously enrolled after their undergraduate degree and did not leave school to work on the business; up to one academic year off before postgraduate study may be considered. GSEA may ask for eligibility affidavits at any time, and awards can be forfeited or repaid if the requirements were not met.
For an Indian student founder, the apply page shows its list of upcoming competitions as images, so we could not read it. An earlier check of the season found no competition in India. If your city or country is not listed, the application has an option called "Other - My City/Country is Not Listed", so you can still apply.
How to apply
Check that you meet the eligibility rules. Review the scheduled competitions on the apply page to find one in your city or country. If yours is missing, choose the "Other" option. Submit your application through the online portal before your local deadline, which you see when you pick your competition. If you win locally, you move on to the regional rounds, then the Global Semi-Finals and Finals. A practical tip: have your business revenue or investment evidence and your story as a student entrepreneur ready, since the judges look at both.
How applications are judged and what happens next
Judging has two parts. The first is you as a student entrepreneur: tenacity, balancing study and business, a wish to build a better tomorrow beyond profit, and EO's values of trust and respect, thirst for learning, thinking big and growing together. The second is your business: its fundamentals including growth, revenue and profit, how clearly you explain the business and its vision, and its growth potential. The top student entrepreneurs go to the Global Finals, which have typically been held in Cape Town, South Africa, in June, with the top 20 competing. Only the finalist may present at the live competition.
About the Entrepreneurs' Organization
EO describes itself as the world's largest entrepreneur network, with a mission to move the world forward. It has run GSEA since 1998. Beyond students, it serves established entrepreneurs through chapters and newer entrepreneurs through an accelerator programme.
