Hovermania is a flagship engineering design and racing competition hosted as part of Techkriti, the annual science and technology festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Techkriti is one of Asia's largest student-run technical festivals, drawing thousands of participants from engineering colleges across India for its robotics, design, and innovation events.
What it is Hovermania challenges student teams to design, build, and race their own hovercraft in a head-to-head competitive format. It blends mechanical design, electronics, and control systems into a single hands-on engineering contest.
Who it's for Engineering students and hardware builders with an interest in robotics, mechanical design, and autonomous systems. Teams of 2 to 6 members may register.

Scoring Racing points are awarded for successful track navigation, obstacle avoidance, and time taken. The final score is calculated as Total Points minus Time Taken (in seconds).
Autonomy Bonus Teams that integrate autonomous navigation can earn extra points. Successfully navigating checkpoints or entire track sections without manual control is rewarded with bonus points - an incentive for teams exploring embedded control and sensor-based navigation.
Registration Deadline: 2026-11-14
Why it matters Hovermania is a practical proving ground for hardware and robotics talent, and a strong showcase for students building skills relevant to India's growing deeptech, robotics, and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
