What it is
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is the world's largest annual global hackathon, run by NASA in partnership with space agencies and local host organisations worldwide. The 2026 edition at Chandigarh University brings this international two-day event to Mohali, Punjab, inviting teams to solve real challenges using NASA's open data.
Who it's for
The hackathon is open to students, developers, engineers, scientists, designers, researchers, and innovators from all academic disciplines and specialisations. Participants from different colleges or universities can form teams together, and multidisciplinary, inter-specialisation teams are actively encouraged. You can take part individually or as part of a team of 1 to 6 members.
What to expect
Process
Register for the challenge, form a team or participate solo, pick one official problem statement, research it, use relevant NASA open data, develop and refine a solution, prepare documentation and a presentation, and submit the final project before the deadline. The detailed local schedule covering registration, development, mentoring, submission, and presentation timings will be shared by the organising team.
Rules and eligibility
All external data, software, libraries, and images must be properly cited. Projects must be original, submitted within the timeline, and comply with official NASA Space Apps terms. Plagiarism and unauthorised use of others' work are prohibited. Professional and respectful conduct is required throughout, and organisers reserve the right to disqualify submissions that violate the rules.
