Robo Oceana 2027 – Amphibious Rescue & Recovery is a robotics design-and-operate competition hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, one of India's premier engineering institutions and a long-standing hub for student-led technical innovation and hardware research.
What it is
Participants must design, build, and operate a self-powered hovercraft capable of navigating both land and water to complete a simulated flood-rescue mission. Teams retrieve rescue payloads, overcome obstacles, and transport them safely to designated evacuation zones within the allotted time.

Rules & Penalties
Teams must follow all vehicle specifications and arena constraints and deposit payloads into their respective rescue zones. Collisions, incorrect sorting, payloads falling outside designated zones, excessive instability, and exceeding payload limits may attract penalties. The team with the highest overall score in the main event wins; ties may be broken by rescue efficiency, time performance, stability, and control.
Prizes
Team Size: 1–4 members
Registration Deadline: 10 December 2026
This is a hands-on engineering challenge suited to student and early-career robotics, mechatronics, and hardware builders looking to test autonomous and remotely operated systems in a demanding, real-world-inspired arena.
