WebClone Mania is a web development competition hosted by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, as part of its Innovision 2026 technical festival. The contest is built to test frontend development, debugging, and problem-solving skills, and is split into two segments so that participants can compete at their own skill level.
Beginner Segment – Website Recreation Participants are shown a reference website on the spot and must recreate it within the allotted time. The challenge focuses on visual accuracy, layout, typography, colour, responsiveness across screen sizes, functional interactions, and navigation. Participants may use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js, or other permitted frontend technologies, and AI coding assistants, libraries, frameworks, and official documentation are allowed. The reference site is revealed immediately before the challenge begins, and participants have roughly 3–4 hours, subject to the final schedule announced by the organisers.
Advanced Segment – Debug and Deploy Participants receive a pre-written codebase containing intentional bugs, broken functionality, incomplete implementations, and backend integration issues. They must analyse the code, identify the problems, implement the required fixes, and make the application work correctly. The codebase may include frontend, backend, database, API integration, authentication, or other web application components. Participants must fix the provided code rather than replace the entire project, and must be able to explain their changes during evaluation. The segment runs for approximately 3–4 hours.
Submission Requirements
Evaluation Criteria The beginner segment is judged on visual similarity, layout, typography, colours, styling, responsiveness, functional interactions, code quality, and completeness. The advanced segment is judged on correct bug identification and resolution, successful feature implementation, frontend–backend integration and API functionality, application stability, error handling, testing, code quality, efficiency, and the ability to explain the implemented fixes. Final scoring weights are announced at the event.
Eligibility and Format Participation is individual; team formation is not permitted. Students from any college, academic year, or specialisation may participate. Participants must bring their own laptops with development environments ready, and internet access is provided subject to availability. Copying another participant's work, unauthorised collaboration, or external assistance is prohibited and may result in disqualification.
