Programmes they run

Standing programmes at IFET College of Engineering, separate from the funding calls above.

IFET runs no programme of its own that a founder can apply to. The one entry below is the Ministry of MSME's national scheme, listed here because IFET is an approved host institute for it and an applicant may choose the college on the ministry's portal.

The Ministry of MSME's national idea competition, in which IFET is one of the approved host institutes an applicant can choose.

Best for: Any Indian citizen above 18 with an idea meant to become a prototype, whether or not they are connected to IFET.

  • Idea – Prototype
  • Online
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

This is the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises' programme, not IFET's. Under the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme the ministry approves host institutes across the country, and IFET College of Engineering is on its published list. An innovator applies on the ministry's portal and picks the host institute they want; if the idea is approved, the funding and the incubation support are delivered through that institute.

The college's own site says nothing about this. Its Innovation Park page carries a "Pre-Incubation (MSME Business Incubation)" heading with no content behind it, so everything below comes from the ministry's own material.

What you get

  • Funding support for approved ideas, paid through the approved host institute.
  • Incubation support as set out in the scheme guideline, to take the idea to a prototype.
  • Evaluation by a panel of three to five domain experts assembled by the host institute.

Who can apply

  • All Indian citizens above 18 years of age — you do not need to study or work at IFET.
  • You apply either as a student or in the MSME/others category, and the category cannot be changed later.
  • The idea must be intended for developing a working prototype, model, proof-of-concept or product.
  • A student applicant submits a student identity card valid for the year; everyone submits a government identity card, preferably Aadhaar, as proof of age.
  • The same or a substantially similar idea may not be submitted more than once, or to more than one host institute.

How selection works: the host institute evaluates first, through a pool of experts it assembles, and forwards only shortlisted ideas. The ministry then screens the documents, sends the screened ideas to thematic domain expert selection committees made up of people from industry, academia and government, and a project monitoring and advisory committee takes the final decision. That committee can reject an idea without giving a reason.

How to apply: register on the ministry's innovative-scheme portal while a round is open and select IFET College of Engineering as your host institute in the application form. The ministry advises consulting your chosen host before submitting, since the choice cannot be changed afterwards — write to the college at principal@ifet.ac.in, the address the ministry publishes for it, or college@ifet.ac.in, the general enquiries address on the college's own contact page. The most recent round's applicant window ran from late June to mid-July 2026 and has closed; the ministry's portal is where the next one will open.

Recognitions & empanelments

Official approvals this incubator holds.

One credential, and it is on a government register rather than on the college's own site. We also checked the registers where a campus incubator would appear if it existed: IFET is absent from AIM's published lists of Atal Incubation Centres and Atal Community Innovation Centres, and absent from all five of the Department of Science and Technology's NIDHI registers, including both the host institute and registered entity columns of the combined technology business incubator list. The college's Innovation Council names an ARIIA coordinator, which refers to the Atal Ranking of Institutions and is not an incubation designation.

Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)

Listed at S.No. 636 of the Ministry's published List of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, as "IFET COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING" (Villupuram, Tamil Nadu), re-checked against the live list on 25 September 2026. This is what lets an innovator anywhere in India name IFET as their host institute when applying on the ministry's own portal — the scheme is open to all Indian citizens above 18, so it is not limited to the college's students. The list gives no approval date, no period and no status column, so whether the recognition is current cannot be told from it; it is a capacity registration, not evidence that the college has ever hosted an approved idea. IFET's own website does not mention it.

How to apply to IFET College of Engineering

कॉलेज जिस एक मार्ग से औपचारिक रूप से जुड़ा है, यानी मंत्रालय का MSME Idea Hackathon, उसके लिए ज़रूरी है कि विचार "must be strictly intended for the development of a working prototype, model, proof-of-concept, or product" हो।

IFET College of Engineering

About IFET College of Engineering

IFET College of Engineering is a private engineering college in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, run by the Indo French Educational Trust, which founded it in 1998. Its innovation and entrepreneurship work sits in two campus bodies: the IFET Innovation Park and an Institution's Innovation Council set up under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell and AICTE. Both are staffed by the college's own faculty.

The college's own words set the gate. The Innovation Park page says it "fosters a culture of creativity, research, and entrepreneurship by providing students with mentorship, resources, and industry collaborations", and its list of responsibilities is written for "students and faculty" throughout. That is a description of who it works with, not a published rule, and the college has never printed an eligibility line, a membership page or an intake for it. In practice it comes to the same thing: there is no form, no contact address and no stated way for anyone — student or outsider — to approach the Innovation Park and ask for support.

Who can apply

If you study at IFET, the Innovation Park and the Innovation Council are yours to use, and the way in is to go to the faculty coordinators named below rather than to look for an application.

If you are a founder with no connection to the college, IFET runs nothing you can join. There is one real route, and it belongs to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises rather than to IFET. The ministry approves host institutes for the incubation component of its MSME Innovative Scheme, and IFET College of Engineering is on that published list. Under the MSME Idea Hackathon, which that list feeds, the ministry welcomes "all Indian citizens above 18 years of age", and applicants "submit their Ideas by selecting an approved Host Institute (HI) based on their preference, such as availability of mentor(s), institutional capabilities, etc." So an innovator anywhere in India may name IFET as the institute that would evaluate and then host their idea. You apply on the ministry's portal, not to the college, and the ministry advises consulting your chosen host before you submit.

How the campus bodies work

The Innovation Park describes its job as organising workshops, seminars and events on innovative thinking and problem solving, supporting research and development work by students and faculty, and running hackathons and innovation challenges — it names Hackathon, Toycathon, Yugam, Baja SAE and coding hackathons as the recurring ones. It also lists department-wise focus themes: artificial intelligence, blockchain and cyber security, internet of things and machine learning for computer science and IT; embedded systems, renewable energy, robotics and disaster management for electronics; digital agriculture, green technology, autonomous vehicles and 3D printing for mechanical; smart grid, smart vehicles and smart automation for electrical; and structural design, water resources and construction management for civil. The page publishes a table of prizes IFET students won at other colleges' project expos, hackathons and paper presentations in the 2024-25 odd semester.

The Innovation Council page publishes a 31-member table for 2024-25 — faculty plus three external experts drawn from industry in Puducherry and Villupuram. The page's description of what an Innovation Council is comes straight from the ministry's own programme text rather than from anything specific to IFET.

One thing to read carefully. The Innovation Park page lists five "Functional Cells" — Pre-Incubation (MSME Business Incubation), Consultancy, MOUs, EDC and Intellectual Property Rights. Those are tab headings with nothing behind them: no description, no contact, no link. So the college has named the areas it intends to cover without yet publishing anything about them, and the pre-incubation heading in particular should not be read as a programme you can join.

What is not here

IFET has no incubator of its own — no separate registered incubation body, no technology business incubator, no cohort, no intake and no named startup it has supported. Its Innovation Council page names an ARIIA coordinator and gives "prepare institute for Atal Ranking of institutions on innovation achievements framework" as one of the council's aims. That is the Atal Ranking of Institutions, a ranking exercise, and it is not an Atal Incubation Centre. We checked AIM's own published lists of Atal Incubation Centres and Atal Community Innovation Centres and the college appears in neither, and we checked all five of the Department of Science and Technology's NIDHI registers, including both institution columns of the combined technology business incubator list, and it appears in none of them.

Who runs it

The Innovation Park is coordinated by Dr. B. Elamvazhudi of the mechanical engineering department, with Dr. M. Saravanan and Mrs. P. Dharani Devi as co-coordinators; the same three hold the Innovation Park roles inside the Innovation Council, where Dr. B. Elamvazhudi is also listed for startup activity. Dr. P. Kanimozhi, the Dean Academics, is the council's internal expert advisor and Mr. A. Sagaya Selvaraj is its convenor.

Where it is

The college is at IFET Nagar, Gangarampalayam, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu 605108. Its AICTE counselling code is 1408. One warning about the website: it runs an off-the-shelf template that has not been fully edited, so the header of every page carries an Australian phone number and a Melbourne address, and the contact page lists three "other campus contacts" in London, New York and Boston. None of those are IFET's. The real numbers and addresses on the contact page are the Villupuram ones. The college also publishes a careers page for faculty and staff recruitment.
