TREC-STEP publishes one application form, for incubation. The two funding schemes sit behind it rather than beside it: the TePP innovation fund is described in the past tense as being renewed by DSIR, and the seed incubation fund is only open to ventures already promoted on the premises. BEACON India is announced but has no page, eligibility or route in, and the BIG Idea Challenge has been closed since 2017.

TREC-STEP was the first outreach centre in the country for the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research's Technopreneur Promotion Programme, and its page is written in the past tense: the programme is currently being renewed by DSIR, so treat it as between rounds and ask before planning around it.
What it did, and would do again, is take an individual with a new product or process idea to a built prototype. TREC-STEP identifies the innovator, has the technology vetted by experts in the field, then mentors and funds the work of turning the idea into an actual prototype or process model. Innovators who get there are moved on into TREC-STEP's own incubation to scale the product up.

TREC-STEP's second funding scheme is a seed incubation fund backed by the Technology Development Board and the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board. Its page is headed as a DST fund and attributes it in the body to those two boards. No intake or deadline is published and the page is undated, so confirm it is live before you count on it.
The design of the fund is what makes it useful: it deliberately covers the costs conventional lenders and venture investors will not touch.

This is the most recent thing TREC-STEP has published and the only reason to watch the site. BEACON India — Building Ecosystem for Accelerating Contribution to NDC through Climate Innovation Incubation for India — was approved by the Green Climate Fund board on 29 October 2025 at the fund's headquarters in Incheon, Republic of Korea. TREC-STEP will run it with TATA Capital as partner, and SIDBI is the accredited entity to the Green Climate Fund. TREC-STEP says the programme will be launched the following year.
Nothing else is published. There is no BEACON India page, no eligibility note, no sectors, no intake and no form, and the Know More link next to the announcement on the homepage leads to a missing page. A climate founder cannot apply today. If you are building in climate, register your interest with the Trichy office by phone and check back — this is the programme to ask about.

Listed here because founders still search for it and because it shows the kind of outreach TREC-STEP runs: this contest is closed and has not been repeated on the site. TREC-STEP organised it with Young Indians, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, with support from the Department of Science and Technology, after running an Ideathon and a Venture Challenge among NIT Tiruchirappalli students. It was planned to reach around twenty science, engineering and management institutions.
Shortlisted finalists pitched their business ideas to investors, the incubation community and entrepreneurs, and winners were to be felicitated at the YUTRY 2018 entrepreneurship conference with prizes and certificates. Entrants were offered mentoring, seed support and incubation services. There were two categories: students, and non-students as Category II, whose last stated submission date was 31 December 2017. The page is no longer linked from the site's navigation.

No page states a current sanction or funding period for any of these, so whether central or state funding is live today cannot be told from the site.
