Track record
What Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation - EDII reports about its portfolio.
AIIRF publishes no track-record figures of its own — no startup count, no funding raised, no jobs. The single number here is our count of the ventures it names, and it is undated. It also describes itself as the first business incubator in Cuddalore district, which is its own claim and not something we can check.
All figures computed from our data — aiirf.com, as of Sept 2026.
Programmes they run
Standing programmes at Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation - EDII, separate from the funding calls above.
AIIRF publishes no cohort dates or intake windows for anything it runs — every route below is described as continuously open. Note that only the first entry is its own programme in the ordinary sense; the innovation voucher route belongs to the Tamil Nadu government, and the incorporation, intellectual property and technology transfer entries are paid services rather than selective programmes.
Incubation at AIIRF
IncubationThe main route in: a rolling application to join the incubator, with lab access, mentoring and services, in exchange for a monthly fee until you graduate.
Best for: Founders in manufacturing, life sciences or water and environment technologies who want lab access and hands-on support in northern Tamil Nadu — from either inside or outside Annamalai University
- Idea – MVP
- Not fixed. The fee runs monthly until the startup graduates.
- In person
- Paid

What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
AIIRF's core offer is residency at its centre on the Annamalai University Engineering Campus. There is no cohort and no intake window — the registration form is simply open, and the foundation assesses applications as they arrive.
What you get
- Access to AIIRF's own equipment: FDM and DLP 3D printers, a LiDAR 3D scanner, an AR/VR workbench, an electronics bench and a mechanical bench, plus a brushless DC motor test rig and an electric two-wheeler chassis dynamometer.
- Access to Annamalai University's laboratories for research and development, and testing and product certification through the host institution.
- Fully furnished co-working desks with internet, available at a rental charge.
- Mentoring through the Mentor Connect programme, matching you with domain experts.
- Help generating seed funding and applying for government innovation grants, including the Tamil Nadu innovation voucher route.
- Company incorporation, Startup India and DPIIT recognition, and intellectual property filing support.
- The option to hire an Annamalai University student as an intern for your project.
- Market linkage through workshops, interface meetings, conferences and investor interactions, and product showcase slots at national and international expos.
Who can apply
- Students and research scholars at Annamalai University.
- Founders from outside the university — individuals, small MSMEs, rural self-help groups and women entrepreneur aspirants. You do not need a university connection.
- Ventures in smart and advanced manufacturing, life sciences, or water and environment technologies. AIIRF says it is not limited to those and can also support agriculture, electronics, artificial intelligence, internet of things, e-commerce, information and communication technology and financial applications.
- You can apply before you incorporate — the form accepts unregistered organisations — but a certificate of incorporation is on the document list.
How selection works: AIIRF does not publish this. Its form refers to a company being approved for incubation, but names no committee, criteria or timeline. Ask.
How to apply: Complete the incubatee registration form on the AIIRF website — not the short enquiry form the home page's apply button points to. You will need a certificate of incorporation, a business plan on AIIRF's own slide template, founder and co-founder resumes, a passport photo, a one-page product and company profile, and a pitch deck. The form ends with a declaration that you accept the incubation agreement, including the monthly incubation services cost, once approved.
Innovation Voucher Program support
Grant schemeAIIRF acts as the academic knowledge partner on Tamil Nadu's innovation voucher route for MSMEs, and helps you build and submit the proposal.
Best for: Manufacturing MSMEs in Tamil Nadu that need a partner institution to back an innovation project
- Prototype – MVP
- Up to one year to complete the project
- Free, no equity
- Grant support for selected startups
With Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Tamil Nadu (EDII-TN), Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
This is not AIIRF's own scheme, and it is worth being clear about that. The Innovation Voucher Program is a Government of Tamil Nadu grant-in-aid scheme for MSMEs in manufacturing, run by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Tamil Nadu and the Department of Industries and Commerce. It is built on a three-way model: the MSME, a knowledge partner such as an academic or research institution, and the government. AIIRF's role is to be that knowledge partner, and it offers guidance on applying.
What you get
- Grant support towards an approved innovation project, on a cost-sharing basis — the scheme pays a share of the approved budget and you cover the rest.
- Two routes: one for developing a prototype or minimum viable product, where the scheme covers the larger share, and one for developing the final product, where the split is even.
- AIIRF as the academic partner on the proposal, with its labs and its university's departments behind it.
Who can apply
- MSMEs in the manufacturing sector, partnered with a knowledge partner.
- Projects below a minimum estimate are not considered, and the grant cannot be transferred. Any cost above the ceiling, or any cost increase, is yours.
How selection works: the state institute assesses and approves proposals, not AIIRF. Activities and budgets have to be approved before spending counts.
How to apply: the application is made on EDII-TN's own innovation portal, which AIIRF links from its services page. AIIRF also has a seed funding facilitation form of its own if you want it to help you prepare the proposal first. Projects have to be finished within a year.
Mentor Connect Program
PlatformA rolling mentor matching programme, with separate sign-up routes for founders who want a mentor and for experts who want to be one.
Best for: Founders wanting a mentor, and experienced operators willing to be one
- Not stated; described as continuously open
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
AIIRF matches startups with mentors from its network of domain experts. The programme has two sides and two sign-up routes, and both are described as continuously open rather than run in cohorts.
What you get
- A match with a domain-expert mentor.
- For mentors: exposure to startup teams, and a network of entrepreneurs, investors and corporates.
Who can apply
- Founders and startups looking for mentorship, through the mentee route.
- Experienced entrepreneurs, founders and professionals willing to mentor, through the mentor route. AIIRF says it matches mentors to work in areas including medtech, health technology, fintech, industry 4.0, green energy, education technology, sustainability and smart cities.
How to apply: use the become-a-mentor or become-a-mentee form on the AIIRF website. No dates or deadlines are published.
A paid service that walks you through incorporating, from name approval to your first statutory filings, with a published price list.
Best for: Founders who need to set up a legal entity and get their statutory registrations done
- Idea
- Paid, no equity
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
A standalone service you can use without being an incubatee. AIIRF handles registration as a proprietorship, LLP, one person company or private limited company, and Udyam registration.
What you get
- The full sequence: name application, digital signatures for all directors, the incorporation application, GST registration, opening a bank account, the post-incorporation declaration filing, appointment of an auditor and MSME registration.
- Other company secretarial work is offered separately.
Who can apply: anyone who needs to incorporate. No eligibility conditions are published.
How to apply: fill the company incorporation facilitation form on the AIIRF website. The charges are on a separate tariff page on the same site — check it before you commit.

What you get
- Filing support across patents, trademarks, copyright and geographical indications.
- Concessional-rate patent filing via the Startup India portal, if you qualify for it.
Who can apply: startups and researchers with something to protect. No eligibility conditions are published.
How to apply: use the intellectual property facilitation registration form on the AIIRF website. As with incorporation, the charges are on a separate tariff page.
Technology Transfer Initiative
ProgrammeA route for Annamalai University faculty and researchers to commercialise or license their research — aimed at academics rather than at outside founders.
Best for: Annamalai University faculty and researchers with a commercialisable research output
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
AIIRF describes this as bridging the gap between industrial and social needs and academic research. Read it as an academic-facing programme: the benefit AIIRF names is career advancement for the researcher, and the invitation is addressed to faculty members and research staff.
What you get
- Help commercialising, licensing or transferring a research output.
- Exposure at conferences AIIRF organises, where investors can assess whether a new product or service is commercialisable.
Who can apply: faculty members and researchers. If you are an outside founder wanting to license university technology, contact AIIRF directly rather than using this route.
How to apply: through the technology transfer registration form on the AIIRF website, or by contacting the office. No dates are published.

Recognitions & empanelments
Official approvals this incubator holds.
One state credential, well evidenced on both sides, and one central registration carried over from an earlier check of the ministry's own list. Neither says anything about a current funding window, and AIIRF claims no DST, NIDHI, Atal Innovation Mission or BIRAC recognition — it helps its startups get DPIIT recognition, which is a fact about them rather than about the incubator.
Sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Tamil Nadu (EDII-TN), Government of Tamil Nadu, under the Tamil Nadu Manufacturing Business Incubation Infrastructure Development Project
AIIRF states this on its own about page, and EDII-TN's website lists the foundation among its incubation centres, which confirms it from the sponsor's side. This is what the "EDII" in the foundation's name refers to — the state institute, not the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India in Ahmedabad, and not the foundation's owner. Neither side publishes a sanction period or an amount, so whether the funding is current cannot be told from either page.
Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)
Listed at entry 679 of the Ministry's published List of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, as "Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation - EDII" (CUDDALORE, TAMIL NADU), checked 24 September 2026. This is the status that lets an innovator name the institute as their Host Institute when applying on the ministry's own portal. The list gives no approval date, no period and no status column, so whether the recognition is current cannot be told from it; and being listed is a capacity registration, not evidence that the institute has ever hosted an approved idea. AIIRF's own website does not mention the scheme.
How to apply to Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation - EDII
Work out which door you need
AIIRF does two quite different things, and the route in is different for each.
- You want a place to build, mentoring and lab access. That is incubation. Use the incubatee registration form, not the short enquiry form on the contact page. This matters: the "Apply for Incubation" button on the home page goes to the contact enquiry form, which is five fields and will not get you assessed. Look for the incubatee registration form instead.
- You want a one-off piece of help — incorporate a company, file a patent or trademark, get Startup India and DPIIT recognition, license a technology. Those are separate paid services with their own forms and their own published price lists. You do not need to be an incubatee.
- You want grant support. AIIRF does not run a grant of its own. It acts as a knowledge partner on the Tamil Nadu government's innovation voucher route for MSMEs, which is run by EDII-TN and the Department of Industries and Commerce. You apply on the state institute's own portal, and AIIRF helps you build the proposal and acts as the academic partner on it.
What the incubation application asks for
It is a long form with uploads, so gather everything before you start. It asks for your educational status, your organisation's name and website, whether it is registered and its registration number, your team, whether your venture is a product, a technology or a service, and a one-sentence pitch. It then asks which services you expect from the incubator — technology transfer, infrastructure, marketing facilities, or something else — and, if you need lab time, to list your specific laboratory requirements.
Two questions are worth preparing properly rather than filling in quickly. The form asks why you want to locate at AIIRF, and whether you have already spoken to a relevant Annamalai University faculty member who has agreed to collaborate, and to name them. Both signal that this is a campus incubator organised around faculty and equipment. If your work needs a particular lab, identifying the department and the person first will make the application much stronger.
Documents to have ready: certificate of incorporation, a business plan on AIIRF's own slide template, resumes for the founder and co-founders, a passport-size photo, a one-page description of your product or technology with your company profile, and a pitch deck. Accepted file types are images, documents, slides and PDFs.
Know the commercial terms before you sign
The form ends with a declaration that you have read the incubation policy and agreement, including the incubation services cost payable monthly, and that you will sign it once approved. So the fee is not a surprise at the end — it is part of what you are agreeing to at the start. Read the agreement, and ask about the waiver for bootstrapped founders and sustainability-focused start-ups if that describes you. Ask separately about desk rental, which is priced as its own thing.
What is not published, and what to ask
AIIRF publishes no intake windows, no selection committee, no scoring criteria and no timeline from application to decision. It also gives no graduation criteria, even though the monthly fee runs "till graduation". Before you commit, ask who decides, how long it takes, what graduation means in practice, and whether the incubator takes any equity — nothing on its pages mentions equity either way.
A few other things worth a direct question: which of its 48 listed incubatees are currently resident, since the list is undated; whether the accelerator support it mentions in passing is an actual programme, because there is no page describing one; and whether its events, such as the hackathon and the investor connect session, are running this year.
Practical notes
Contact goes through the chief executive officer, whose number is on the contact page. Be aware that the published email address is a personal-style free mailbox rather than an organisational one, so a phone call may get a faster answer. Parts of the website still carry unedited template text from the theme it was built on, including a staff block with fictional names and a paragraph about a web design course — ignore those and work from the pages that are clearly about the incubator: about, services, thrust areas, lab facilities, membership, incubatee and contact.
About Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation - EDII
Annamalai Innovation and Incubation Research Foundation, which brands itself AIIRF – EDII, is a business incubator on the Engineering Campus of Annamalai University at Annamalai Nagar, in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. It is a non-profit Section 8 company, set up in 2019 as a special purpose vehicle of the university to foster entrepreneurship and nurture technology start-ups. It describes itself as the first business incubator in Cuddalore district.
The "EDII" in the name is worth explaining, because it is easy to misread. It refers to the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Tamil Nadu — EDII-TN, a Government of Tamil Nadu body — which sponsored the incubator under the Tamil Nadu Manufacturing Business Incubation Infrastructure Development Project. EDII-TN's own website lists the foundation among its incubation centres, which is the clearest confirmation of the relationship. It is not the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India in Ahmedabad, and EDII-TN does not own the foundation. The parent is Annamalai University.
How incubation works
There is one main route in: apply to be an incubatee, and if you are accepted you sign an incubation agreement and pay a monthly incubation and consultation fee until you graduate. There is also a one-time registration fee that differs by who you are — student, start-up or MSME, corporate, NRI — and a one-time documentation fee. AIIRF says the consultation charge is waived for bootstrapped founders and for start-ups working towards sustainable development. So this is a paid incubator rather than a funded cohort programme, and the fees are published rather than quoted case by case.
AIIRF publishes no cohort dates, no intake windows and no selection criteria. The registration form is simply open, and the declaration at the end of it refers to a company being approved for incubation without saying who decides or how long that takes. If the timing matters to you, ask before you apply.
Alongside incubation it runs a set of named facilitation services, each with its own form and its own published price list: company incorporation, intellectual property filing, and technology transfer. It also runs a Mentor Connect programme with separate sign-up routes for mentors and for founders who want one.
Who can apply
Both insiders and outsiders. AIIRF states that its incubatees come from students and research scholars inside Annamalai University, and also "from the community" — individuals, small MSMEs, rural self-help groups and women entrepreneur aspirants. That is unusually explicit for a campus incubator, and it means you do not need a university connection to apply.
You do not need to be incorporated first. The registration form asks whether your organisation is registered or unregistered and accepts either, although a certificate of incorporation is on its list of documents, so expect to be asked for one as you progress. The form also asks whether a university faculty member has agreed to collaborate with you and to name them, which suggests a faculty sponsor is expected for lab-based work even though it is not stated as a condition.
The declared focus is three areas: smart and advanced manufacturing technologies, life sciences, and water and environment technologies. Under those it lists robotics and automation, machine design, internet of things, artificial intelligence and data science, augmented and virtual reality, rapid prototyping, drones and electric vehicles; agricultural, marine, health and food sciences, green chemistry and biotechnology; and waste water treatment, water purification, solid waste management, air pollution control, waste-to-energy and renewable energy. It adds that it is not limited to these and can also support agriculture, electronics, e-commerce, information and communication technology and financial applications.
Facilities
The incubator has its own equipment, which is the strongest part of its offer. It lists an FDM 3D printer and a resin DLP 3D printer, a LiDAR 3D scanner with an automated turntable, an augmented and virtual reality workbench with head and eye trackers it built itself, an electronics bench with power supplies, oscilloscopes, a Fluke multimeter and soldering and surface-mount stations, and a heavy-duty mechanical bench with welding, grinding and drilling tools. For vehicle work it has a brushless DC motor test rig and a two-wheeler chassis dynamometer for electric vehicles.
On top of its own kit, incubatees get access to Annamalai University's laboratories for research and development, and testing and product certification through the host institution. AIIRF says its three focus areas were chosen around the strengths of the university's ten faculties. Startups based there can also hire an Annamalai University student as an intern to work on their project. Co-working desks are available, fully furnished and with internet, let at a rental charge.
Track record
AIIRF publishes no startup count of its own. Its incubatee page names 48 ventures, spread across advanced manufacturing, life sciences, water and environment and a handful tagged ed-tech. The entries are undated and carry no cohort year, so it is not possible to tell which are current residents and which have moved on. Named ventures include Fibtec Enterprices, Dronny Systems, Neothera Research, Emsensing Technologies, Gaags Technologies, Echo Care Biosolutions, Zero Meat, INRO Labs and Pachathundu Agritech. Several have their own live websites linked from the page.
Who runs it
A small full-time staff of four, led by chief executive officer Mr R. Karthick, with an accounts and operations manager, a public relations executive and a technical assistant. The seven-member board mixes Annamalai University professors — including the foundation's nodal officer and its project coordinator, both from the chemical engineering department — with three businesspeople from outside the university.
Events and careers
AIIRF runs occasional events rather than a fixed calendar: its events page lists an IdeaHackathon, an Investogram investor connect programme, a workshop it calls Patent School, hands-on drone technology training and a fifteen-day internship. None of these carries a date, so treat them as things to ask about. It also keeps a careers page, currently advertising an incubation executive and a marketing executive.
Location
The incubator is in the Diamond Jubilee Building near the Rajendran statue on the Engineering Campus of Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar 608002, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. The town is usually written as Chidambaram, which adjoins Annamalai Nagar; the foundation uses both names for itself.

AIIRF does two quite different things, and the route in is different for each. - You want a place to build, mentoring and lab access. That is incubation. This matters: the "Apply for Incubation" button on the home page goes to the contact enquiry form, which is five fields and will not get you assessed.
