Fatima Mata National College
An autonomous arts-and-science college in Kollam, Kerala, whose innovation body — IEDC FMNC — is open only to its own undergraduates: the registration form accepts one of 20 Fatima Mata National College UG courses and a semester from 1 to 6, so there is no entry for anyone else.

Programmes they run
Standing programmes at Fatima Mata National College, separate from the funding calls above.
The college runs one innovation body, and it is campus-gated. IEDC FMNC's registration form accepts a course only from a closed list of Fatima Mata National College undergraduate programmes and a semester only from 1 to 6, so a founder from outside the campus has no way in. There is no incubation intake, no cohort and no funding call here.
The college's student innovation cell, open to current Fatima Mata National College undergraduates in semesters 1 to 6 and to nobody else.
Best for: Current FMNC undergraduates in any stream, semesters 1 to 6, with or without an idea.
- Idea
- Continuous — register once, take part while you are at the college
- In person
- Free, no equity
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
IEDC FMNC is the college's innovation and entrepreneurship cell, run by faculty nodal officers and by students. It is a standing campus body rather than a dated programme: you register once and take part for as long as you are at the college.
What you get
- Ideathons, bootcamps, innovation challenges and design sprints through the academic year.
- Mentoring from the faculty nodal officers, who come from commerce, science, computing and humanities departments.
- A campus entrepreneur corner and named student leadership roles you can take on.
- Access to IdeaBox, the cell's members-only idea board, where you can post an idea, back others with Sparks and chat to teams. Submissions open in rounds and were closed when this page was checked.
Who can apply
- Current Fatima Mata National College undergraduates only. The registration form's course field is a closed list of 20 FMNC UG programmes and the semester field runs from 1 to 6.
- Any stream. The cell states there is no branch restriction and names non-computer-science students as a group it wants.
- Existing members, who are invited to take bigger roles and mentor the new batch.
- No experience and no idea required.
How selection works: There is none. Registration is open to students of all years and everyone who registers is in. Competition happens later, inside the events — EPHPHATHA 1.0 and the Beat the Bot Challenge both named prize winners, all of them first- and second-year students.
How to apply: Fill the registration form on the cell's own site with your name, FMNC programme, current semester, personal email and WhatsApp number. Use an address and number you watch, because the same pair signs you in to IdeaBox. Questions go to the cell's inbox at iedc@fmnc.ac.in, or to its office on the ground floor of the Golden Jubilee Block.
Recognitions & empanelments
Official approvals this incubator holds.
One credential checks out, and it is a listing rather than a programme. Nothing on the college's own site or its innovation cell's site claims recognition from the Department of Science and Technology, NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission, Startup India or Kerala Startup Mission.
Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)
Listed at serial number 565 on the ministry's live list of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, as "Fatima Mata National College" (Kollam, Kerala), re-checked against the ministry's own page on 25 September 2026. The list has a single institution column, so the designation belongs to the college itself. It gives no approval date, no period and no status, so whether it is current cannot be told from it, and being listed is a capacity registration rather than evidence that an idea has been hosted. Neither the college nor its innovation cell mentions the scheme anywhere on its own pages.
How to apply to Fatima Mata National College
First, check that this is for you
- IEDC FMNC takes current Fatima Mata National College undergraduates only. The registration form's course list holds 20 FMNC UG programmes and nothing else, and the semester field stops at 6.
- If you are outside the college — or an FMNC postgraduate, an alumnus or staff — you cannot register, and there is no separate intake for you. Go to Kerala Startup Mission's own student and startup routes instead, or to a Kollam-area incubator that takes outside applicants.
- If you are an FMNC undergraduate, you do not need an idea, a team or prior experience. The cell states that no experience is expected and that every stream is welcome, and it names non-computer-science students as a group it specifically wants.
How joining works
- Registration is a short form on the cell's own site: your name, your FMNC programme, your current semester, a personal email address and a WhatsApp number.
- Use an email address and number you actually watch. The same pair is what signs you in to IdeaBox, the cell's members-only idea board, so a throwaway address locks you out of the part where the work happens.
- There is no deadline, no selection and no interview to become a member. Registration is the whole process.
Be realistic about what an IEDC can do
- An IEDC is a student innovation cell, not an incubator. It gives you events, workshops, mentoring from faculty, a place to test an idea in front of peers, and roles you can grow into. It does not give you desks, a lab, money or a legal structure, and this one advertises none of those.
- The step the cell labels incubation is the top of its own membership ladder — lead a team first, then build something real. There is no application behind it and no cohort to get into.
- Judge it by what it lets you practise. Every winner the cell names is a first- or second-year student who entered an ideathon or a challenge, not a founder with a company.
Where to go when you outgrow it
- Kerala Startup Mission runs the state's student-facing routes, including a three-month pre-incubation programme for student innovators, a student community programme, and an idea festival where shortlisted teams present to an expert panel and can receive grant support. Those are the state's programmes, run by the state, not by the college — you apply to them directly.
- The college holds Host Institute status on the Ministry of MSME's list for the incubation part of the MSME Innovative Scheme. Under that scheme an innovator attaches to a host institute, and there is no qualification bar on the innovator. The college publishes nothing about it, so treat it as a conversation to start with the cell's coordinator rather than a route with a form.
- If you want an incubator proper, look outside the college. Nothing on either FMNC site offers incubation space, a fund or a startup programme.
Getting in touch
- The cell takes mail at its own inbox and lists its office on the ground floor of the Golden Jubilee Block. It also runs Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, which are where event announcements land first.
- Three different phone numbers appear for the institution across the college site, the cell's site and the ministry's list. If you are on campus, the office is the reliable route; if you are not, use the cell's inbox.
About Fatima Mata National College
Fatima Mata National College (FMNC) is an autonomous arts-and-science college in Kollam, Kerala, affiliated to the University of Kerala. Its innovation and entrepreneurship work runs through one body, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell, which the college calls IEDC FMNC and runs on its own site at the iedc subdomain. The cell is staffed by college faculty and run day to day by students.
Read the eligibility before anything else. IEDC FMNC is a campus body, and its own registration form says so more clearly than any policy page could. The form asks for two things that decide who can join: a "Department / Programme", chosen from a closed list of 20 Fatima Mata National College undergraduate courses with no other option, and a "Current Semester", chosen from Semester 1 to Semester 6. A founder from outside the campus cannot complete it. Neither can an FMNC postgraduate student, an alumnus or a member of staff. The cell describes its own intake as open to students of all years, and within the campus that is exactly what it means: every stream is welcome, with the page stating that there is no branch restriction and that innovation is not a department.
What the cell offers a student
The cell publishes a five-step path rather than a programme with a start and end date. Step one is joining and saying hi, step two is taking part in events and workshops, step three is owning a small role, step four is taking charge of a team, and step five is labelled incubation or startup — building the real thing. That last step is the top of a membership ladder, not a separate intake: there is no incubation application, no cohort, no selection round and no space or lab attached to it. Treating the word incubation here as an incubator would misread the page.
Six activity types are named for the year: ideathons, bootcamps, mentoring, a campus entrepreneur corner, innovation challenges and design sprints. The cell also runs IdeaBox, a members-only idea board on its own subdomain. Signing in to IdeaBox requires the same email address and WhatsApp number used on the registration form, so it is reachable only after joining. Idea submissions were closed when this page was last checked, with the feed, the Sparks reaction and team chats still open, which is the shape of a board that opens in rounds rather than continuously.
Recent events are named on the site. EPHPHATHA 1.0 produced prize winners for most sparked idea and for second and third place, and a Beat the Bot Challenge produced its own winner. Every winner is listed as a first-year or third-semester FMNC undergraduate, by course and semester, which is another plain confirmation of who this body serves. A campus festival called Kidilonam 2K26 is advertised in the site header with registrations open for all years.
The MSME Host Institute listing
Separately from the student cell, the college itself appears on the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises' published list of Host Institutes for the incubation part of the MSME Innovative Scheme, at serial number 565, under its own name, in Kollam, Kerala. That list was re-checked against the ministry's live page when this profile was written. It has a single institution column, so the designation belongs to the college and not to some other body it hosts, but it carries no approval date, no period and no status, so whether it is current cannot be told from it. It is a capacity registration, not proof that any idea has been hosted.
What matters for a reader is that the college publishes nothing about it. Neither the college site nor the cell's site mentions the scheme, Host Institute status, an intake under it, or a person to write to about it. Under the scheme's own rules an innovator attaches themselves to a host institute, and there is no qualification bar on who that innovator may be — but that is the scheme's design, not an open door the college has advertised. Anyone hoping to use FMNC as their host institute would be starting a conversation from scratch.
Who runs it
Rev Dr Sanu F, an assistant professor of commerce, is the coordinator. Seven nodal officers support the cell, drawn from commerce, physics, English, economics, zoology and computer science: Dr Sachin P C, Dr Karthika S B, Mr Krishnan Unni G S, Dr Dafina Wilfred, Mrs Aneeta Das, Mr Anzil Thomas and Mrs Sania Carlose. Students hold named leadership roles alongside them, and the cell's own site was built by an FMNC computer applications student.
Where it is
The college sits at Karbala Junction, near Kollam Railway Station, in Kollam, Kerala. The cell's own office is on the ground floor of the Golden Jubilee Block on campus, and it takes mail at its own inbox. The college also lists an office, principal and manager inbox for admissions and general business, which is a separate matter from the cell.
Recognitions the college does not claim
To be precise about what this body is not: neither the college nor the cell claims recognition as a Technology Business Incubator under the Department of Science and Technology, an Atal Incubation Centre under NITI Aayog, or a startup recognised by Startup India. Neither site mentions Kerala Startup Mission either, so whether this cell sits inside the state's IEDC network cannot be established from what is published. The MSME Host Institute listing is the one credential that checks out, and it is a listing rather than a programme.
