About this competition
The Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneur Competition is a free, fully virtual pitch competition for high school students anywhere in the world. It is run by Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneurs Corporation, a non-profit registered in Maryland, USA. First place wins US$1,000 (about ₹95,000), and entries are open now until 21 February 2027, midnight in your own time zone.
Note early: this is a student-only competition for high school or equivalent pre-university students, or homeschooled students aged 14 to 18. It is not for adult founders or companies. Indian high school students can enter, and there is a regional prize for Asia and Oceania.
What the program offers
The 2027 awards are US$1,000 (about ₹95,000) for first place, US$750 (about ₹71,250) for second and US$500 (about ₹47,500) for third. A People's Choice Award of US$750 (about ₹71,250) goes to one of the Top 100 pitches. Regional winners receive US$500 (about ₹47,500) each for North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania, Latin America and the Middle East. Three teachers who champion the competition also receive US$500 each.
Everyone who completes the free Blue Ocean Mini-Course gets a certificate, every student who submits gets a certificate of participation, and top-placing pitches get a recognition certificate. The page does not say how and when awards are paid, only that winners are contacted individually and dates are to be announced.
Who can apply
You can compete alone or in a team of up to five students, from the same school, different schools or different countries. Every team member must register individually. Students must be enrolled in high school or an equivalent level, such as GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level or IB, when they register, and graduating before the deadline does not disqualify you. Pitches must be in English and original.
You do not need an existing business, a prototype or new technology. Ideas can be for-profit or non-profit and do not need to involve technology. It suits students curious about business strategy. It does not suit university students or adults.
How to apply
Register with an email address you check regularly, then complete the free Blue Ocean Mini-Course, which is compulsory before submitting. Develop an original blue ocean idea, meaning one that opens a new market space instead of competing head-on, and structure it using the provided pitch template. Record a video of under five minutes at normal speed, in English, using three required tools: the Strategy Canvas, the Three Tiers of Noncustomers and the Eliminate-Reduce-Raise-Create Grid. Name the file after your idea, keep it under 1 GB, upload it to YouTube with #blueoceancompetition, and submit the YouTube link and the file through the form. A practical tip: the page gives the length as under five minutes in the rules but 3 to 5 minutes in the FAQ, so aim for about four minutes. You can submit only once and late entries are not accepted.
How applications are judged and what happens next
Judges are experienced entrepreneurs and business people. Several judges, assigned at random, score each pitch on five equal criteria worth 20% each: value innovation, market potential, commercial viability and scalability, technical feasibility, and quality of presentation and use of the Blue Ocean tools. The field narrows to a Top 500 and a Top 100 on 5 April 2027, a Top 30 on 22 April, a Top 10 on 4 May and winners on 13 May 2027 at a live online finale. The People's Choice Award uses YouTube engagement and judge likes among the Top 100. No individual feedback is given because of the volume of entries.
