Datanova 2026 Global Data-Thon is a two-round virtual data competition organised by the Swiss School of Management (Rome, Italy) in collaboration with the ACM Seattle Chapter as institutional partners. The event invites innovators, students, researchers, developers, data scientists, and technology professionals to translate complex problems into practical, scalable, data-driven solutions.
Who Should Apply The competition welcomes undergraduate and postgraduate students, PhD scholars and researchers, software developers and engineers, data scientists and analysts, AI/ML practitioners, technology professionals, independent innovators, and interdisciplinary teams. Solo participants are allowed — those without a teammate at registration can add one later.
Tracks / Themes Participants pick a problem statement from the official website and build a submission around it. Themes span Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Predictive Analytics, Generative AI and Responsible AI, Data Engineering and Business Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Fraud Detection, Healthcare and Social Impact, Sustainability and Climate, Operations Research and Decision Intelligence, Education and Business Innovation, and Open Innovation.
Format & Timeline The competition runs in two rounds. In Round 1, participants register individually or as a team, select a problem statement, and submit a pitch deck (PPT) along with an optional working demo and optional video, paying a ₹100 registration fee. Shortlisted teams are then invited to an online live presentation in Round 2 (the final round), where they present their solutions to judges and may improvise on their Round 1 submission with a working demo. Winners are announced following the judging process, with the competition concluding by November 2026.
Judging Criteria Projects may be evaluated on problem understanding and relevance, innovation and originality, technical depth and implementation, data quality, methodology and analytical approach, solution quality and functionality, feasibility and scalability, potential real-world impact, and presentation and communication. The final scoring rubric and weights will be communicated before evaluation.
Prizes A total prize pool of $1,750 (approximately ₹1.7 lakh) distributed across the top three ranks, plus free subscriptions to AI tools. Certificates are awarded to winning teams.
Eligibility Open to students, researchers, developers, data scientists, and technology professionals globally. Teams of 1 to 5 members. Participants should review the official eligibility requirements and team formation rules before registering.
