Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is the statutory body that advises the state government on tourism in Uttarakhand. It is chaired by the Tourism Minister of the Government of Uttarakhand, and it also works as a regulatory and licensing authority for the sector. For founders, the board matters for one incentive scheme for tourism investment and for the online registrations that tourism businesses need.

What the board does

The board's About page describes it as the highest body to advise the government on all matters relating to tourism in the State. The Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand is its vice chairman. Because it also functions as a regulatory and licensing authority, its online services are mostly registrations, listed below.

Programmes

The main programme for founders is the Uttarakhand Tourism Entrepreneur Promotion Scheme 2024. The board's site also names it the Uttarakhand Paryatan Udhyami Protsahan Yojana. The scheme is a financial incentive for permanent-resident entrepreneurs who invest in tourism activities the scheme notifies. The incentive is worked out on the eligible capital invested. It has a fixed base part and a percentage part, with a maximum for each category. Three category tiers set the rate, and the rate rises from category A to category C.

Alongside the scheme, the board runs three online registrations for tourism operators: one for travel trade operators, one for homestays and bed-and-breakfast units, and one for tourist guides. Each is a registration on its own portal. None of them is a grant.

Who can apply

The scheme is for permanent residents of Uttarakhand who are entrepreneurs. The investment must be in a tourism activity the scheme notifies, and it must fall within the investment band the scheme sets.
