PIEDS (Pilani Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Society) is a technology business incubator located at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani campus in Rajasthan. Established in 2013, PIEDS leverages BITS Pilani's strong engineering and science programs to support deep-tech and technology-driven startups. The incubator has received support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission.
PIEDS serves as the primary incubation and entrepreneurship development arm of BITS Pilani. It provides early-stage startups with workspace, technical mentorship, access to BITS Pilani's laboratories and research facilities, and connections to funding sources. The incubator bridges the gap between academic research at one of India's top engineering institutions and commercial startup development.
PIEDS offers structured incubation programs that include co-working space, dedicated labs, mentorship from faculty and industry experts, and access to seed funding through government grants and the incubator's own corpus. The incubator supports startups across technology, healthcare, education, IoT, semiconductors, and renewable energy. Key technology focus areas include IoT, AI, semiconductor design, and analytics. PIEDS also facilitates participation in government funding programs and connects startups with industry partners for pilot projects and commercialization support.
PIEDS alumni include Kalam Labs, Valerio Electric, Niroggyan, Adneu, and Nawgati. These startups span education technology, electric vehicles, health diagnostics, and mobility solutions, reflecting the diversity of ventures that emerge from the BITS Pilani ecosystem.
BITS Pilani students, alumni, and external technology founders who want to commercialize innovations in hardware, IoT, semiconductors, healthcare, and clean energy. Startups at the ideation and validation stages benefit most, particularly those that need access to laboratory infrastructure, technical mentorship, and a peer community of engineering-minded founders.
With over 300 startups supported, PIEDS has built a meaningful track record as a Tier 2-3 city incubator. Located in Pilani, Rajasthan, it demonstrates that quality incubation is possible outside India's major metro cities when anchored by a strong academic institution. PIEDS contributes to building the deep-tech startup pipeline in northern India and provides BITS Pilani's students and researchers with a direct pathway from academic innovation to entrepreneurship.
