About this competition
The Technovation Challenge is a free global competition run by Technovation, a US non-profit. Young people aged 8 to 18 spot a problem in their community, build a technology or AI solution, write a plan to launch it as a business and pitch it. The 2026 to 2027 season is open now: register by 11 March 2027 (23:59 UTC) and submit by 5 May 2027, 5 PM PDT.
Note early: this is a youth-only competition for ages 8 to 18; anyone above 18 cannot compete, though adults can volunteer as mentors or judges. It is open worldwide, so Indian students can take part, either through a local chapter or online with a mentor.
What the program offers
There are two tracks this season. The Girls Track is for teams of girls, plus nonbinary, gender-fluid and transgender participants who want a female-identified space. The Co-Ed Track, new this season and called the Mixed Track on some pages, is for co-ed or boys' teams. Finalists are chosen and awarded separately for each track.
On the Girls Track, the current listing records 15 finalist teams who each receive a US$500 educational stipend per person and free travel to the World Summit, three Grand Prize teams (one per division) who get US$750 (about ₹71,250) per person instead, and 30 Regional Honors teams who receive US$250 (about ₹23,750) per person. The official competition page re-read for this listing says awards include educational scholarships but points to a separate Award Structure page for amounts, so check that page for the final numbers. Prizes for the Co-Ed Track will be confirmed after submissions close in May 2027.
Beyond money, Technovation provides a free curriculum, mentors and a platform for building and submitting a project.
Who can apply
Students aged 8 to 18 from anywhere can compete. You can join through a local Technovation site or take part virtually on your own. Joining a local chapter is not required. Each team needs a mentor, who may teach and guide but must not create, design, develop or write any part of the submission. Teams agree to an Honor Code, submissions must be created by the students, and all sources such as tutorials, code libraries and templates must be cited.
This suits school-age teams, school clubs and young makers who want to build an app or an AI project with a business plan. It does not suit adults or for-profit startups.
How to apply
Register on the Technovation platform between 11 October 2026 and 11 March 2027; the site recommends starting by 10 February 2027, about 12 weeks before the submission deadline. Form a team and find a mentor, pick a community problem, build the solution, write a business plan and make a pitch video, then submit by 5 May 2027 at 5 PM PDT (5:30 AM IST on 6 May). Using the curriculum does not require submitting, but only teams that submit can compete. A practical tip: if you use AI tools, say which ones, for what, and how you checked the results, in the written part of your submission.
How applications are judged and what happens next
Every team that submits is a quarterfinalist. Quarterfinal judging runs from 11 May to 7 June 2027, at Regional Pitch Events and online. Semifinalists are told by email on 14 June, and semifinal judging, entirely online, runs from 15 to 28 June 2027, when finalists and Regional Honorees are picked. A virtual celebration and finalist announcement is planned for July 2027. Girls Track finalists pitch at the World Summit, where one Grand Prize winner per division is chosen. The World Summit date is still to be announced.

Things to check before you apply
- Mentors commit about 30 to 40 hours from October to May, with a background check as part of onboarding.
- The source does not say whether the World Summit travel is paid for; the listing figures say yes for Girls Track finalists, but confirm on the Award Structure page.
- The competition page says registration opens on 11 October 2026 and that the season officially starts on 12 October 2026, so do not be surprised if other pages quote either date.
