About this competition
Aerothon 2026 is a national-level aerospace hackathon organized by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in collaboration with IIT Indore, bringing together innovators, engineers, programmers, and researchers to tackle real-world challenges in aerospace engineering using data-driven approaches.
From machine learning for aerodynamic prediction to surrogate modelling for propulsion systems and intelligent optimization of aerospace designs, participants will work on cutting-edge problem statements inspired by modern aerospace engineering challenges.
Who Should Apply Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognized institutions across India. Teams of 2–4 members. Ideal for students interested in aerospace engineering, AI/ML, data science, optimization, and scientific computing.
Format & Timeline The competition has two rounds:
- Round 1 (Online Screening): Teams select and solve one of the provided problem statements, submitting their proposed solution, methodology, and implementation. The best teams are shortlisted for the Grand Finale.
- Round 2 (Offline Grand Finale): A 24-hour hackathon at IIT Indore on 7th–8th August 2026. Shortlisted teams build, refine, and present their solutions before an expert panel from academia and industry.
Prizes Total prize pool worth up to ₹2,10,000. Additional opportunities include interaction with HAL experts, IIT Indore faculty, and networking with innovators from across the country.
Eligibility Teams of 2–4 members. Open to Indian undergraduate and postgraduate students. No entry/registration fee.

What You Get
The competition carries a total prize pool worth up to ₹2,10,000, awarded for the best solutions across the online screening round and the 24-hour offline Grand Finale at IIT Indore. Beyond the prize pool, shortlisted finalists get direct interaction with HAL experts and IIT Indore faculty, plus networking with aerospace innovators from across the country. Entry is free — there is no registration or participation fee.
