About this grant
The latest round of the Alzheimer's Association Part the Cloud Translational Research Funding programme has closed. The letter of intent (LOI), which is the required first step, was due on 20 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern time (22 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern time for ISTAART members), and late submissions are not accepted, so no new applicant can enter this round now. The request for applications does not announce a next round, though it notes that a resubmitted project needs a new LOI each year, which suggests the programme recurs. The remaining dates in this cycle apply only to invited applicants: full applications are due 15 December 2026 (17 December 2026 for ISTAART members) and awards are announced by 15 March 2027.
The programme exists because there is little funding for the earliest human trials of new Alzheimer's medicines. The Alzheimer's Association runs it to fill that gap. It is open internationally and does not require a US applicant, but it is a research-grant programme for clinical investigators, not a general startup grant. Nothing in the document describes an in-person stage.
What the program offers
Each award is capped at US$1,000,000 (about ₹9.5 crore) in total, direct and indirect costs together, for two to three years. Non-profit organisations may include indirect costs of up to 10% of direct costs; for-profit organisations may not include any. Most of the money must go to direct research support. Grants are paid in US dollars and the Association does not adjust totals for exchange-rate changes. Purchases above US$10,000 need prior approval even if budgeted. The document also lists costs that cannot be charged, including standard computers, laboratory equipment, construction, tuition and institutional overheads tied to staff time.
Projects can be a lead therapy needing first-in-human testing, a therapy with human safety data that needs a small proof-of-mechanism study, a Phase 1 or small Phase 2a study of a repurposed drug, or a proof-of-concept study that validates a biomarker of disease progression. A Phase 3 study can qualify in some cases. Studies with good results may later work with the Alzheimer's Clinical Trials Consortium on a larger trial application to the US National Institute on Aging.
Who can apply
Academic investigators and small companies can apply, and for-profit organisations are eligible. Government-funded laboratories, in the US or abroad, cannot be the applicant institution, although their scientists can collaborate. The principal investigator must hold a position equivalent to Assistant Professor or above. Students, postdoctoral fellows, and temporary, part-time or acting faculty cannot apply. The person who oversees the institution's finances cannot also be the PI. One applicant can submit only one proposal across the Association's programmes in a competition year. Researchers from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
For an Indian applicant this means a clinical-stage biotech or a research institution with a qualified investigator and a real early-phase trial plan. It does not suit a pre-clinical idea, a software or wellness product, or a team without a clinician-scientist.
How to apply
Applications are made through the online proposalCENTRAL system. The LOI needs the PI's details, institution and rank, and a signed W-9 (US entities) or W-8-BEN (non-US entities) dated within the past five years showing a tax or VAT number. Non-academic non-profits may be asked for extra documents about their financial controls. Invited applicants then submit a full application covering the work plan, trial design, budget justification, data sharing plan and milestones. The PI on the full application must be the same person named in the LOI.
How applications are judged and what happens next
LOIs are read by two or three reviewers for innovation, fit with the programme's priorities, impact on dementia research and methodological rigour. Only a fraction are invited forward, and no reviewer feedback is given. Full applications go through peer review from December 2026 to February 2027, followed by a panel discussion and final approval by the Association's advisory group. Awards are announced by 15 March 2027.
About the Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer's Association funds Alzheimer's and dementia research through its International Research Grant Program. Part the Cloud is its initiative for translational and early clinical work.
Things to check before you apply
The programme cannot fund anyone subject to US sanctions. Applicants may use generative AI tools to prepare their documents but remain fully responsible for the content. A practical tip: phase-appropriate endpoints and a clear go or no-go decision for the next stage of development matter in early-phase trials, so plan these before the next LOI window. Indian applicants should confirm regulatory approvals for the trial with the relevant authorities and receipt of foreign funds with an adviser.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Indian companies or researchers apply for Part the Cloud?
The programme accepts academic investigators and small companies internationally, so an Indian institution or company is not excluded for being outside the US. A non-US applicant submits a W-8-BEN form. The PI still needs to meet the academic-rank and project rules, and US sanctions rules apply.
How much is an award?
Each award is limited to US$1,000,000 (about ₹9.5 crore) in total, including direct and indirect costs, for two to three years. For-profit organisations cannot include indirect costs. Non-profit indirect costs are capped at 10% of direct costs.
Is this a grant or equity?
It is a research grant. The document does not mention the Association taking equity or ownership of the therapy.
What was the deadline, and has it passed?
Yes. The LOI was due on 20 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern time, or 22 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern time for ISTAART members; both have passed. Invited full applications are due on 15 December 2026 (17 December 2026 for ISTAART members), and awards are announced by 15 March 2027.
When is the next round?
The request for applications does not announce one. It says a resubmitted project needs a new LOI each year, so check the Association's grants site for the next call.
Who can be the principal investigator?
A full-time person in a position equivalent to Assistant Professor or above. Students, postdoctoral fellows and temporary, part-time or acting faculty cannot apply, though they can be key personnel.
What documents are needed?
The LOI needs a signed W-9 (US) or W-8-BEN (non-US) form showing a tax or VAT number, dated within five years. The full application adds a work plan, trial design, budget justification, data sharing plan and milestone plan.
Can I use AI tools to write the application?
Yes. Applicants may use large language models and other generative AI tools, and remain fully responsible for the content.
Will I get feedback if my LOI is rejected?
No. Because of the number of submissions, individual feedback and reviewer comments are not shared at the LOI stage.
Do I have to travel?
The document describes no meetings or events that applicants must attend.
