Build Space by Google Developer Groups is the flagship technical-business case competition hosted by GDG on Campus at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala. This competition goes beyond traditional hackathons, serving as an incubator for high-potential ideas by focusing on bridging the gap between technical innovation and commercial viability. Participants are challenged to develop solutions that are not only technically robust but also financially sustainable, fostering a startup ecosystem where students can lay the foundations of future companies.
Who Should Apply
This competition is designed for student teams of 3 to 5 members who are passionate about technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Participants should be eager to transform theoretical knowledge into practical, market-ready products.
Competition Structure
The competition unfolds in three distinct rounds:
- Round 1: The Blueprint Brief - A 20-minute online quiz testing participants’ knowledge of product fundamentals and technological concepts, challenging logical thinking and technical understanding. Top-performing teams advance.
- Round 2: The Forge at Buildspace (On-Campus Round) - The top 40 teams engage in an intensive 16-hour offline sprint. During this round, teams will transform their ideas into functional prototypes, focusing on practical solution development and refining product concepts.
- Round 3: Final Pitching (On-Campus Round) - Finalist teams will present their developed projects to a panel of judges. Each team will deliver a timed pitch detailing their product, underlying technology, and business model, followed by a Q&A session.
Prizes
Build Space offers a total prize pool of ₹85,000, comprising both cash and in-kind rewards, distributed among the top performers:
- Winner: ₹35,000 (cash and in-kind)
- First Runner Up: ₹20,000 (cash and in-kind)
- Second Runner Up: ₹10,000 (cash and in-kind)
- Track Winner 1: ₹10,000 (if applicable)
- Track Winner 2: ₹10,000 (if applicable)
All participants must adhere to the event Code of Conduct.
Eligibility
Teams must consist of 3 to 5 members and register exclusively through the Unstop platform. The competition is open to students.
