Building India Case Study Competition 2027 is the fourth edition of what is described as the largest undergraduate case study competition in India, organised by the NationBuilding Foundation of India. The competition engages undergraduate students in solving challenging governance problem statements spanning Education, Sports, Public Health and related policy domains, with selected students presenting their solutions before subject matter experts and government stakeholders.
Theme The theme of the fourth edition is "Substance Use". The problem statement is: "How can India strengthen demand-side interventions to prevent and reduce substance use among youth by 2030?"
Who Should Apply The competition is open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in India. Participation is strictly in teams of two, and both members must be from the same college — individual participation is not permitted. Cross-specialisation and cross-year teams are allowed, and each student may be a member of only one team. Participants must submit a scanned copy of their college ID at every round for verification.
Format & Timeline The competition runs across five stages. Registration opens on 9 October 2026 and closes on 1 December 2026; registration can be completed by the team leader, but the team member's consent is required. Stage two is an Online Quiz held 5–6 December 2026 in MCQ format, testing general awareness, current events and understanding of the theme; correct answers earn 2 points each with no negative marking, and the team leader is the designated member eligible to take the quiz. Stage three is an Idea-Pitch Submission (10 December 2026 – 3 January 2027), requiring a 5-slide PDF presentation and a 3-minute video pitch uploaded to Unstop by 11:59 PM on 3 January 2027. Stage four is the Semi Finals (6–23 January 2027), where qualifying teams submit a 10-slide PDF by 20 January 2027 and present in Gurgaon on 22–23 January 2027. Stage five is the National Finals (27 January – 19 February 2027), with a 15-slide PDF due 16 February 2027 and final presentations in New Delhi on 19 February 2027. Only one submission per team is allowed at each stage. Teams are assessed on understanding of the problem statement, clarity and effectiveness of the solution, presentation and communication skills, and Q&A performance. English is the primary language for all communications and assessments, and any deviation from the guidelines results in immediate disqualification.
Prizes Prizes worth ₹16 lakhs are up for grabs, with a cash pool of ₹12.1 lakh. The winning team receives ₹5,00,000 plus MacBooks; the first runner-up receives ₹3,00,000 plus iPads; the second runner-up receives ₹2,00,000 plus iPads; and other national finalists receive ₹30,000 per team.
