The "Visualise the Future of Shopping and Recreation" Innovation Challenge, hosted by MIT Art, Design & Technology University (MIT ADT), Pune, invites creative minds to explore groundbreaking ideas
in Intelligent Building Design. This online competition challenges participants to re-imagine an existing building (3000-5000 SQM) into a 'Smart Shopping Mall of 2035', focusing on intelligence, sustainability, and an unforgettable user experience. Who Should Apply This opportunity is open to fresh Graduates, Final Year Undergraduate students, and young professionals (under 25 years of age) from Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering backgrounds. Teams of a maximum of 3 participants are acceptable, with a mix of diverse professional backgrounds recommended to foster interdisciplinary innovation. Themes & Problem Statement The core theme is "Visualise the Future of shopping and recreation," with a specific focus on "The Smart Shopping Mall of 2035." While the exact problem statement will be revealed via a webinar, participants are expected to focus on Intelligent Building Design, covering areas such as: Intelligent Buildings in Architecture Building Automation Systems (BAS) Futuristic solutions for shopping malls Mechanical engineering and mechatronics for buildings Smart building services (parking, lifts, HVAC, lighting, fire safety) Immersive shopping experiences (AI, ML, AR/VR, Digital Twin) Sustainable shopping malls and innovative construction technologies Competition Structure & Submission Participants will create an idea board showcasing innovative concepts that make shopping/visiting a mall smarter, easier, or better. Submissions should be visual-first (70% visual, 30% text), presented on a maximum of 6 A2-size sheets (or digital equivalent). The focus is on communicating what an intelligent mall looks like, key innovations, why it matters (sustainability, experience, efficiency), and the team's unique design/engineering perspective. AI-generated ideas will not be considered, though AI tools for image generation are permissible. Why This Matters This challenge aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). It encourages participants to envision malls as experience-intelligent, socially-intelligent, environmentally-intelligent, and energy-intelligent spaces for 2035.
Open to fresh Graduates, Final Year UG students, and young professionals (under 25 years) from Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering backgrounds.
